First HD-DVD Movie Leaked Onto BitTorrent
The HD-DVD has been cracked, and high definition content is now being distributed freely over BitTorrent. We all knew this would happen sooner or later, looks it was “sooner”. The first HD-DVD to be uploaded to BitTorrent is Serenity, the Firefly movie.
It hasn’t even been a month since the HD-DVD ripper, BackupHDDVD was released and we’re already seeing high definition feature films pop up on torrent sites. Other than Serenity, it is rumoured that HD-DVDs of the movies Batman Begins, Chronicles of Riddick, 12 Monkeys and King Kong have been decrypted and consequently shown up on torrent sites. Yesterday, a handful of hackers figured out how to extract the unique volume key from HD-DVDs.
According to HDTV Blogger, the torrent is “a 19.6GB file in native EVO format that should play on PowerDVD and WinDVD with HD DVD playback.” Apparently, he got a “very, very nasty email” after posting about the first HD-DVD torrent. It seems the anonymous mailer was upset at the fact that he was bringing unnecessary attention to the P2P community. Looks like his plan just backfired.
The anonymous mailer also claims that HDTV Blogger is violating the BitTorrent site’s copyright by posting a screenshot of the site. “By posting that screencap you have violated the copyright of the tracker by posting an image and text that is own by them. You should remove the screencap before legal action is taken upon you.” - is this guy for real?

Thats jokes…. So HD-DVD is a flowing…. What about Blue-Ray?
Bah Thats a huge File D:
Firefly ROCKS!
Well, the file’s been removed from h*khm*ts.org
Bring on the HD DVD usenet!
alt.binaries.movies.hd-dvd
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If HD-DVD`appears vulnerable, that means Blu-Ray will win. That means Sony wins. Don’t let Sony win :(
wow, that anon mailer is one bona-fide r.e.t.a.r.d. he should be banned from life.
you complete ass. you and your crappy site claim to try and help bittorrent sites, but here you are actively contributing to this site’s demise. (although maybe the extra ad-revenue generated by an exciting story about a take-down seems an attractive prospect to you.)
If you are a fan of firefly you wouldn’t pirate it. The show needs all the support it can get and by stealing it, well you are just hurting the cause.
The adult film business supports HDTV and not BluRay. That’s game over.
Those who think that this support isn’t a big deal, have no idea how big the adult industry is. Sony is making a massive, massive mistake.
HD-DvD being rippable makes it BETTER for consumers, its another nail in blue ray’s coffin.
Now the idiots over at HDBits are going to try and ban people for talking about it in public…good luck with that *sarcasm
If the people at HDBits think they’re beneath notice then they deserve to get shutdown for being delusional morons.

This isn’t the 1980s. Porn is freely available on the Internet now. The fact remains that Blu-ray is the superior format, but besides that, Disney is Blu-ray exclusive. That guarantees it will succeed right there because all the soccer moms buying Lion King in HD will have to get the Blu-ray version.

Why kill off Blu-ray? It’s better than Microsoft’s crappy format.
Blu-ray still has way more studio support. You guys don’t know what you’re talking about.
It was bound to happen. It will be interesting to see what action if any may be taken by HD-DVD makers and content producers. Just shows that it doesn’t matter what you make and how tough you make it to crack, someone will always end up cracking it.
To Supportfirefly: Shut up, Browncoat twat, the franchise is dead dead dead. Whedon himself has said so.
SHIT where do i get this file.
Brick and mortar stores, like Mervins, include the cost of “lost revenue” from people not paying for things by passing it onto the legitimate buyers. In the digital world, you have hardware, and software. The cost of hardware is going down. The cost of software is going up. You cant clone hardware, but you can clone software. The cost of that which clones software, the pricey stuff, is almost nothing today.
I see this as a good thing, it will force companies to make actual products that actually serve a materially beneficial purpose, like assisting you in your everyday life…..like say the iPhone. Ultra cheap hardware and all the free entertainment you can access, simply increases the amount of time in your life you spend cemented in front of a spray of pixelated light. Either people will become so attached and have to stay in front of screens 24/7, or the ability to have anything for free will render the displays…..well, do you remember your first girlfriend, it was all hot when it was expensive to access, but after you could get it free on demand, it lost its appeal? :)
Has anyone downloaded this and confirmed it’s true?
