When providing internet search services couldn’t bring in more revenue by itself, they became an advertizing company, buying all the big advertizing companies that existed. Once they established themselves as the world’s biggest advertizing company and merged all existing tracking data about users, they intensified the “collecting data” part.
Then they struck a secret deal with the NSA, giving them free access to all that personal data.
Later they assimilated all video streaming websites and helped suing the remaining ones to establish a great monopoly.
Then, they started accepting requests from various governments to help implement local censorship policies, and track down nasty dissidents.
So, fast forward a bit, google has become an old memory of the old internet days, and long replaced by good search engines like duckduckgo or disconnect; at least, by smart people. Only sheep use google.

And I do possibly see some last attempt, in 2016, if, say, Rand Paul gets elected president. I do forsee the possibility of another attempt at piracy legislation in the closing days of the Obama Adminstration, if Rand Paul, or some other liberatarian type gets elected that is no too friendly towards the copyright lobby.
