I have free legal subscriptions to starz hbo showtime tmc encore and cinemax and I also have dvr boxes in two rooms of my house and I still dl the the shows.

The simple reason is I am at my pc more than anything and it is just easy to download a tv show and watch on my pc, with much better quality than the streaming service, and I can also do the things I want at the time on my pc

Old media is dying because of new technology. Since you can not turn back technology, old media’s only chance to survive is to adapt to the changes. If they don’t do that, they will fall like so many newspapers already did.
We don’t need to worry about it. They are here to please us, the consumer, we are not here to please them. Someone else will stand up and provide the products we need, in one way or another.

Actually they do. I grew up in the 80s. I had a huge cassette tape collection and a pretty good collection of disney films on vhs. When I got a cd player and a dvd player, I had to pay for the same movies and same music again. Just like I had to pay for an HBO subscription to watch their dramas and then had to pay for the same show again when I bought the season dvds.

It’s not necessarily bad to have to pay twice. They had to spend money to print and release the new format. The real problem is that the prices they charge are too high. I don’t complain about that, though, because the artists get a percentage of the royalties from the sales. That’s how it works.

I pirate, though, because I’m a cheap bastard who doesn’t give a shit about the artist. Just like everybody else who pirates, no matter what they try to tell themselves.

They’re a bunch of selfish bastards, just like me, who won’t be bothered with the inconvenience of paying an artist or waiting to see a new season.

I’m downloading the final 8 episodes of Breaking Bad already because I refuse to wait. I’ll show them!

But who does the store pay? The store pays HBO. You pay the store. HBO is still getting paid for each copy that is bought, so no. You wouldn’t be a thief for paying for it.

Not if we adopt a licensing model (versus a property model) for flour, paper clips, blankets, wire, etc. What’s really scary is that tech companies have started trying to push licensing models for HARDWARE in addition to software.
