Who can be so dumb in atempt to buy userbase.

It is same as buying bank and converting it into casino with hope that customers will not notice anything.

They can buy as many sites they want it cost nothing to make new site in few days. and it is even better if dome dumbass will buy it again that means more free money.

Only possible business model is voluntary payment that is how artists were living for ages before copyright.
ant that is how they will be forced to live in future.

I they will newer force me to pay anything because It is me who choses amount of payment and not content creator.

GGF can be sure that I won't be going on any site that they've touched, and they won't be getting a cent from me. If it means that I have to go to darknets, then so be it.

Buying up sites just for the userbase is a retarded business strategy.

Dude, of course it's basically the same thing, the biggest difference is how widespread it is and how much money record companies are losing because of file-sharing versus how little they were losing due to some kids tape recording songs off the radio.

This is pretty commonly accepted fact, I think.

The way I think it will work is like this, you will only be able to buy downloads of movies and other stuff that you can buy on the net or in shops, there will be no cams, screeners, or r5’s it will only be legit stuff but AT A FRACTION OF THE COST because there will be no production costs involved ‘ ie if a movie costs $15 in a shop $ 12 on line it may cost $6 or $7 to download a retail copy from this new system of distribution , this will do away with all the production cost’s to make a hard copy and will be a fast and easy way to distribute world wide , you may get deals like so much a month for so many downloads , just like the paid music downloads, sad I know but it is the only way a business like this can work and they will have to have a distribution licence from each movie company and so on and so on, you may also get a bit of advertising from the movie company’s as THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE BY AGREMENT if it is going to work, TOTALLY DIFFERENT to what we have now, I know some of you will laugh but trust me on this I know people in the industry, this is what they want it’s a compromise , we get things on the cheap they still get some cash for there labours , there’s a saying -- all good things must end.

Another thing;

It's a fact that they (the MAFIAA) want to take away our legitimate and legal civil right of sharing
freely information and culture with others via internet and converting it in a business, a pay service.
It's from any point of view, something unacceptable.

The basic civil rights are not negotiable, Period.

If these damn capitalists would have had the opportunity of monetizing the sunlight, the oxygen and the water that all us need for living, even the point of making it a monopoly for controling to all us and our lives, believe me, they would already have done it; without care at all about of undermining us.

Damn greedy bastards.

Exactly, You understood it correctly.

This is an organized plan from the MAFIAA for closing and destroying to the competition and staying the traditional MAFIAA cartels as the only alternative, that's all.

Particularly, I won't give a cent of my money for supporting these MAFIAA cartels, who are thieves and international mobsters, and who clearly want take away my legitimate right to share information and culture with others.

I like the way a lot of you are claiming that GGF are tools for the music industry buying this and that out. But isn't this a good thing in a way? At least they are offering a monetary solution rather than busting down their doors and arresting them.

without flaming anyone please take your head out the sand!!

1. 99% of the content on the trackers are by scene release groups which are leaked as we all know the scene doesn't even want their stuff on bittorrent.

so now the new owner is going to be using and making a living of pirated scene groups releases? haha yea right the scene will just stop releasing anything because this guy is profiting from their time and hard work.

for the deliusional people here (oh i lovely 720p encode would be lush) come on wake the F up!! yea can see the industry sat there at their work stations lol encoding XviD and or .264 encodes lmao

i can picture it now mpaa employing people to take their commercial titles grab a copy of anydvd hd lol and break the ACCS protection and have a full line of staff at their little work stations ripping to 700mb or 1.36gb releases in XviD or DivX or mkv lmao...

what kind of world do you wake up in , in a morning it's sure not earth.

what will mr hans do when scene shuts up shop or the leakers stop leaking the content just to make a point they stop for a few months,

where's mr hans going to make his money from then on content that doesn't exist for him to continue making money of?

is he going to rip his own movies and put them on or go buy applications and crack them himself.

thank you for reading for the people who has some common sense

Nothing if free someone has to pay for the servers, on so called free sites its advertising but these are slow full of fakes and monitored very closely by the wrong people logging IP’S and sending out warnings or worse , so I here you say use a proxy! Again slow and only the pay ones give good speed, pay sites give good speed and top quality more importantly they are a lot safer , what GGF want to do is create a massive pay site that’s fine by me BUT they best not rip people of or it WILL fail, value for money is key with this.

Ahh interesting. Corporations have a multi-pronged attack. Their lobby groups corrupt various governments to do things their way. They corrupt the legal systems to get their "show trials". Then they just buy out all the torrent sites to "legitimize" them.

One thing I don't understand is why people still use torrents to download music.

Youtube, daily motion, and others have a lot of music, illegal or otherwise and I just don't remember the last time I used bittorrent to listen to music online and to be complete honest if its not on youtube I just don't know about it or jamendo I'm making an effort to listen to jamendo.

@72 Aug 06, 2009 at 10:45 by cliff:

There are solutions already even if all trackers go down bittorrent still can function because it uses DHT(Distributed Hash Tables) the problem would be finding the torrents not the trackers.

Still even to find torrents anonymous solutions already exist like the hidden services from TOR or the Osiris serverless system(different from the Osiris security opensource app).

And there is the apps that already have all this functionality (search,DHT, anonymity and encryption) all bundle up in a single app like GNUnet, Retroshare, StealthNet and other, so you see P2P is ahead off the curve here and still developing fast and so fast that is hard to keep up with everything that appears.

it makes me laugh more and more ... is there a link between these guys and the Irak minister of foreign affaires ... you know the one that said "There are no Americans over here and if they will come here we slaughter them all" :-) he also made me laugh ...

This entire system they are thinking of is domed to fail. Big fail however I think like any filesharing system torrent will one day also be replaced by something better and as said before ... a good solution would be to make somekind of distributed tracker. The piratebay has about 32 GB of torrent files. with 2.000.000 seeders that is about ... 4 kb!!! for every seeder. How hard can it be to make a distributed system that only has to share about 5 kb a person... make it redundant and put all data at at least 20 persons then it still is less then 100 kb !!! that is like seeding one torrent ...

However I'm not a developer but a hosting provider. If anyone has good ideas just put some developer internetz together!

@Mr.Afghanistan

They will spend 8 million $ and save 1000 billions by stopping TPB file distribution service!

Err...

One: Filesharing doesn't cause even a decimal point percentage of that number in damage. There is no evidence to show that it does.

Two: Remember Napster? When the RIAA shut it down, they undoubtedly wanted filesharing to die right then and there. It didn't. The sharers spread to other protocols and the number of sharers expanded. TPB is not the only tracker out there, and if it does get removed from the game, people will just go elsewhere instead of quitting sharing.

They haven't even implemented a successful model yet and they want to buy out other sites. Pandeya is a frigging moron. The copyright holders are not going to give up their strangle hold on what they already have control of, unless its riddled with crippling DRM. Secondly they won't succeed unless they're the bitch of RIAA/MPAA/IFPI and in that case no one will use them.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind paying a small fee to download episodes of The Office, or what ever, as long as the fee is reasonable, the downloads are quick, and no DRM is involved. I don't pirate because it's free, though that is a very nice additive, I pirate because it's convenient.

I don't want to make my schedule around TV broadcasters, nor do I want to have to wait for a DVD box set to be released to view the content at my own leisure. The box set prices don't really appeal to me, either.

If I could pay for content with my bandwidth (keeping a reasonable or high upload ratio) instead of money, and download any movie or TV show in a clean, watchable format (h.264 720p encodes would be delicious) with no DRM, I would be all over that. Other people could pay with money instead of bandwidth to not have to maintain a ratio, and everyone would be happy. I get my content in the way I want it, MPAA/RIAA gets their cash from people who don't want to contribute to the swarm (and ads no less), everyone wins.

The best way to stop piracy is not to go after the pirates, but to change your game to compete with them. Sure some people will still pirate, but many pirates only do so because it's the only alternative to bowing down to the demands of the unreasonable.

After reading this article, a certain instance came to mind.

For years, we played Paintball for free in the woods next to a river. One day, the Big Paintball companies created a pay-to-play field which No one ever went to play.

Since they knew all the players were playing for free, they started calling the cops. They finally complained enough that the cops shut down all the free fields.

They thought it would make all the players go to the pay-to-play field if they wanted to still play paintball. This did not happen. A small group start other free fields. Most people quit. Now, all of the paintball companies are out of business.

I'm not saying anyone is going to go out of business. I believe torrents will exist and file share will always be around. (I started in the BBS days).

What I am saying, is that these businesses have been pissing people off for years. In a time where people are not buying much as it is. I would think you would want to be as nice as possible. No one wants to play with people who take you ball first. Most people who use torrents buy the DVDs/Music or Software. They just want to see how it is first.

We are not pirates. we are filesharers who exert our legitimate and legal RIGHT to share information and culture with others, Period. If you are looking for piracy; here a good one example:
