Google Torrents

Written by Ernesto on November 05, 2006

I stumbled upon this BitTorrent search engine that uses Google’s search technology to find torrents. It is not very user friendly though, because it does not return info like the size of the torrent, or seeds and peers.

google BitTorrent filesGoogle Torrents is using the Google Coop platform. Google Coop allows people to create customized and personalized search engines.

Even though it is not very useful, it does show that it is easy to find torrents with Google. Google even has a filetype command that helps you to find .torrent files.

A couple of months ago the BitTorrent search engine Torrentspy used this argument in a motion to dismiss a lawsuit initiated by the MPAA. Torrentspy said that that everything they do, Google can do better.

Just go to google.com and write: searchword filetype:torrent

Btw, this should only be used if:
a] torrentz.com shuts down
b] you desperatly want the torrent
c] you don’t know about more REAL torrent search pages.

there are some places you can learn more interesting things to use/abuse google for.

Sucks, ill stick with torrentz.com… its the same stuff than typing what you want in google, then adding the word torrent in the end and then start the search

The result page takes you to the directory, where you can find other torrents of the same category. This is in fact amazing, as you will discover something which you have always wanted, but never got to lay your hands upon.
