I’ve seen numerous intelligent software developers unwittingly have their servers or products hacked countless times due to cutting corners, failing to sanitize inputs, making assumptions, etc.

The fact that he once ran the site that allowed you to download your favourite anime porn without paying does not make him innocent.

+ Unlike all the other TPB owners he failed to appear before the court and instead tried to escape to Cambodia – why would anyone who’s innocent do that?

Isn’t an equally likely scenario would be my daughter got into the cookie jar, and tossed a cookie to my son as she ran out to class? My son would then have crumbs but would not have had his hand in the jar…

Maybe there really is nothing relevant to the case on the computer. Maybe that’s his porn stash & he doesn’t want the police going through it & finding out he has a bizarre sexual fetish… It only takes one person with lose lips… I’ve seen enough Law & Order episodes where they find out some major athlete/celeb is gay & the officers promise to keep it a secret, then the next scene the tabloids are running it & the athlete/celebs career is over….

3.) Re: Not knowing about remote access

OK, so he’s a computer genius… That doesn’t mean he knows EVERYTHING… Maybe someone else found out about an exploit in the remote access software he had on his computer. They could have used it to commandeer his computer and use it for their own goals without his knowledge. He could have just assumed the excess bandwidth was due to a friend streaming music while connected to his box.

Presumably the hacked company has computer geniuses on staff. Presumably if they knew they were being hacked, they would have stopped the hacker before he got access to the data. IF its OK for their geniuses not to know they were hacked until later why is it so un-realistic that Gottfrid was hacked and didn’t know it?

Not to be picky… But if both the Dane and Gottfrid were in Cambodia at the time, and assuming they are in fact the individuals who committed the hacking… Wouldn’t that mean the crime took place in Cambodia, which I would imagine, would be outside of the Danish legal system’s jurisdiction…
