yes Ninja, usually, but I’m talking sites of 1,000 members, very strict with limited invites, no open registrations ever, plus only a few screened, dedicated uploaders, no other members allowed to upload, and, of course, their own tracker which is absolutely not allowed to be used anywhere else, or anything re-uploaded anywhere else.

@ninja except the prob is that the private guys arent the ones doing it , they get all there stuff “elsewhere” and i’ll add …what if i am member of 20 private sites and i upload to each site but not in any sequence and it gets outted to two ips that are offshored seedboxers aka not original seeds. AND i ban all other seeds. WHAT then….
who you gonna bust someone with a seedbox that you cant due ot it being outside your jurisdiction. THAT’s as far as it should go for that rat. all he or she can do then is get those around the swarm BUT what if you never get a complete copy from a single person by design of the torrent software…oh gee maybe they quit and or stopped or ….

well you get the idea.

You’ll always be at risk. I can emulate a heavy and serious file sharer while working for HADOPI. It’s not too difficult.

1- Get yourself a subscription from any provider.
2- Stick your head into the file sharing community – forums, irc rooms, trackers (starting with the easier to get in).
3- Upload good stuff to get your reputation up.
4- At some point you’ll find some1 that trusts you enough to give access to low profile trackers (privates that aren’t too well known). Providing you do a comprehensible search and a good work you’ll know where to go and to look.
5- Bury yourself deeper and deeper but be patient, do not reveal the ips to the authorities till you get enough trust and data.
6- ????
7- Profit.

No place is secret enough or impervious to external intervention. All it takes is time and patience. No child porn network is dismantle in one or two days. No drug cartel is stopped in one or two days ;)

depends on the private tracker. some are almost as easy to get in they might as well be public, then there are the VERY secret ones with security so tight it borders on paranoia, no one will ever get caught on them.

About these cease&desist attacks based on fake distribution contracts from the sleazy lawyer mob. Why not enforce a contract when joining a private tracker site that limits its usage for very specific tasks and forbid any data mining usage needed by the loggers.
Just turn their business concept against them. If they attack based on data mining on these private trackers sue them back.

The benefit of private sites generally is more in quality of content then in extra safety.

Private or not private, as long as you’re going to break the law (whether you agree with it or not), at least do it the right way. SSL vpns, offshore seedbox, ssl ftps, and VMs on encrypted disks.

Would the ToS you have to agree to when joining private sites or even semi-private sites not put monitors on shaky legal ground if trying to prosecute?
