Crazy stubborn *businessmen* who refuse to accept that times change and that they need to change with them. I wonder what is the average age of these people, I bet that half of them are senile.

I imagine a comic strip of these people calling the shots from a retirement home, crying about “them damn pirates” and about losing money, while a crowd of people are trying to hand them cash only to be brushed off because they are interrupting the sob stories.

Here’s a thought:
Remove the exclusivity of watching GoT on HBO*.
Lower the prices on your DVD’s. HBO is infamous for overpriced DVDs.

*Put your show on Hulu, or Netflix. Stop assuming that HBO subscriptions are the best way to make money.

That’s what they seem to miss. How is this different from broadcast TV–oh wait, they’re trying to end that as well. Seriously, if they just went with it, they could sell their ads, make their money and everyone would be happy. Provide a paid option for the people that despise ads. Instead they’re alienating their own customer base and cutting off a massive number of potential customers. Stupid!

Under fair use (and established law) it is perfectly legal to make a copy or record for one’s own use. These corporations are eroding established copyright laws and the definition of “fair use”, to the detriment of their own customers, potential customers and innovation. Under fair use, or any market model these are not lost profits. Where is the theft? Moreover, in the case of actual loss, it seems to most often be to the actions of the companies themselves making it difficult or impossible for potential customers to access their products. Many of the downloaders wouldn’t have access even if they WANTED to pay. Most of the “lost profit” is quite imaginary which makes this whole issue quite different from the usual definition of “piracy”, let alone theft. Now if the P2P users were selling their downloads, that’s a whole different story, but that is not what is happening.
