Yeah, I can see that and agree. But the following is all too common and it’s the kind of thing which distorts any credibility — especially with the ignorant who have no idea of just “why” things happened as they have.

My experience is the other way around actually. the use of the word “pirate” begets curiosity and interest. And, of course, it doesn’t matter what we choose to call ourselves – the copyright cult would keep referring to us as pirates anyway.

Only one thing to do about name-calling such as that; Own it and make it yours. Our swedish party leader, being outspokenly gay, agrees, based on her own experience, that if the shoe fits, flaunt it until it’s no longer a cause for public shame.

Kind of a shame, actually. She is inadvertently spreading something which (as you stated) has nothing to do with the others.

I loved how the proliferation of that video caused the FCC site to collapse due to the overwhelming and unexpected response. Plus, it actually caused the issue to get more response when mainstream news (broadcast and online) outlets covered it.

On a side-note — This demonstrates something that has always bothered me — the “Pirate” parties should change their name. Using the word “pirate” in anything these days gets a mostly negative response.

Since we are talking about “digital politics” a better name (IMO) would be the “Digital Party.”

Using that name would remove the negative connotations and more precisely express the overall justifications for such a political party and where their platform fits into today’s increasingly digital world.

I doubt she looked much further than reading up some wiki entry about Lundström being a “closet nazi”.

That said it’s a shame she didn’t investigate Fredrik and Peter who have a solid record of being civil rights activists.
