I wonder what techniques they are using for watermarking. I’ve heard that some strategies are to make very subtle changes to the way the book is written, mainly in the pronouns, articles, context words and that sort of thing. You could code just 20 changes in the text of an entire book and give each distribution version a very unique identifier that would be almost undetectable / erasable.

Oh nevermind. Reading through the thread shows this has been discussed and I’m just repeating. Ignore.

Harper Collins ebooks are consistently a rip off. They frequently remove all maps and illustrations from a title but charge a mere 10% less for the ebook than the hard copy.
Call me crazy, but if I’m reading a history book I want and need the maps it’s supposed to contain. Until they start taking the ebook edition of a title as seriously as the hard copy, I’m going download their material for free when ever I can.
They’re ripping their customers off first, they’ve no business complaining that they got ripped off in return.

Yep. This is just DRM to trace people and sue them. But I don’t live in the corporate states of America so good luck with that!

10 minutes to remove, which is a damn site quicker than the time it will take to regain peoples trust in a spying watermark once the mainstream public are made aware, Sony failed when challenged in a court of law, what makes this different? answers on a piece of dog shit please because news like this smells worse. ANY watermarking is spying, and when you pays good money for an eebook, that you never own!, the last thing you want is some dicksplat company also using you and your money to SPY.
