How to make a custom TV-torrent feed

Written by Ernesto on March 24, 2006

tvRSS just released some extra features that makes it easier to find the latest episodes of your favorite TV-show. They optimized their search options, and support “search based rss feeds”. This makes it easy for anyone to create a personalized TV-torrent feed. This means you can have all your favorite TV-torrents in one feed.

So let’s say we want a feed for the latest 24, Lost and Prison Break episodes.

(Note that downloading TV-shows can be illegal in some countries. If so, consider moving to another country or collect the torrents just for fun)

Step 1.

Go to the shows listing on RSStv.net. You’ll see a list of all the available shows. Browse through the list and click on your favorite TV-show.

Step 2.

You’ll now see a listing of the latest episodes. Take the Prison Break list for example. Notice that there are double postings in the list. This is because there are more distribution/release groups releasing the same episode in different qualities.

Use the search field on the top of the page to narrow down the results untill only see one release per episode. For example, select EZTV as the distribution group and LOL as the release group. Hit “search” and you will see that you narrowed the search results down to one release per episode.

Perfect.

Step 3.

Now we want a rss feed for these customized results. All you have to do is Click on the “Search-based RSS Feed” link

torrent feed rss

Now you have your custom TV-torrent rss feed.

Step 4.

If you have more that one favorite TV-show you have to merge those custom feeds into one. So repeat step 1, 2 and 3 for all your favorite show and save the links to the custom feeds somewhere (copy / paste, I wouldn’t advise to write them down, ;) )

If you have all the feeds you need, go to Feedjumbler, or another feed-merge service and merge your feeds into one.

Step 5.

Congrats, you’re done. Now all you have to copy the feed in your favorite rss reader.

Check out the 24 & Prison Break example (available feeds or html)

You can auto download the torrents using torrent clients like Azureus or uTorrent. Another option is to use thunderbird, or other email apps that support rss feeds to receive the latest torrents. Or just import the feeds into bloglines, my yahoo, newsgator, google desktop, windows live, netvibes… you’ll get it…

Have fun.

Hi, If you’re using Azureus you don’t need a feed reader. Just download the RSS plugin for Azureus.

That should work

thanks! Azureus has too much of a memory leak. I prefer utorrent because it doesn’t give me the blue screen of death. and this works great in conjunction.

When I click on “search-based RSS feed”, I get this message:

“This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”

What when wrong?

nothing’s wrong. that’s just the rss feed. You need an rss reader or similar service to read those feeds

hi. this is the first time i’ve done this and the entire process is new to me, including the techno terminology. i downloaded “bittorrent” and also the right episode–took about 6 hours. i opened it this morning and i could hear it–on my windows media player, but i can’t see the image. any simple thoughts about what i’m missing, for a non-tech person.

thanks much.

you’re probably missing the right codecs

download this media player, that should solve the problem

What would be amazing is to tie this in with Democracy TV, and then to something that can transfer it to a mobile device (sync the psp the next morning, and watch on the go)

Then, I would be officially done with traditional tv, and the networks could legally torrent eps with commercials in, generate revenue, track thier demographic, and all would be utopia

i just downloaded fireant.tv at http://fireant.tv/download (free) that playes everything, feeds, and can replace windows media. I’m just getting the hang of it and the UI is great!

* Subscribe to any RSS channel
