[...] HTTP Traffic Overtakes P2P, Courtesy of YouTube A recent study shows that YouTube is responsible for nearly 10% of all Internet traffic. As a result of the increased popularity of YouTube and other video streaming sites, HTTP traffic now generates more traffic than P2P, for the first time since 2002. The data gathered by Ellacoya, a company that offers broadband service optimization solutions for IP networks, shows that 46% of all Internet traffic is generated by HTTP traffic, compared to 37% by P2P.
To get those figures into the proper context:

This study only applies to certain North American ISPs that are also Ellacoya's customers !!!
They are already traffic shaping and discriminate p2p traffic.

And how does enctypted and obfuscated p2p traffic fit into this all ?
Does it fall into the http, p2p or non-http-streaming category ?

And don't forget, Ellacoya wants to sell its technology to more ISPs !

This whole "study" is nothing more than a marketing gag.

Now the question is, how much of that HTTP traffic is in itself "illegal"? Could well be over 50 % "illegal" with p2p if you could figure that.

Excellent report on how things such as video are affecting the internet though.

Anything to get rid of all the commercials on regular cable TV.....
I pay for cable but use the net for viewing as I demand a choice to block out commercials... I resent them showing commercials on time I pay for, no matter what the argument... I don't need to know about the latest new and improved Tampon or learn about a drug that will save my life from one illness only to kill me in the process.... If I want or need a product I'll make a few calls....
