@Borderline Voter: in some countries, *downloading* alone IS already illegal. For example in Germany, it is illegal to download stuff if it is apparent to the downloader that this comes from an “illegal” (read: non-authorized by the copyright owners) source. Of course, as with other silly laws, nobody cares, it is merely theory. ;-)

Downloading IS NOT ILLEGAL no matter how the Music/Movie people dress it up.

Downloading is the mere act of transfering data from place a to b in a series of 1 or 0′s

I am going to create a site which will have a photo that I will copyright, then then send out letters etc to Music companies etc saying that there is some very interesting information for them on this site and as soon as they load the page my copyright photo is DOWNLOADED to their browesr and a copy is made in the cache then I can send they a letter saying that person on their IP address has violated my copyright, download the photo and made a copy of said photo for use and possible distribution and now CAN YOU please send me £1100 else I will inform you ISP and they will ban you company from the internet

Right, stop moaning about it. You get disconnected on mobile broadband, you just walk over to the place where they sell sim cards and pay €0,50 for a new one, all across europe.

ultimate aim here? no one able to use the internet unless it is a government body or have explicit permission from the entertainment industries (only to visit web sites they say are ok and only able to do what is permitted by them on those web sites). here comes big brother – 1984!!
