Could also set up different corporations for VPN services that wouldn’t be part of the ISP. How its done isn’t important, the point is to screw the MAFIAA.

Not all P2P is illegal, I agree privacy is a huge concern for very legit reasons.

There already exist many such ways to finance culture but the anti-pirates desperately and systematically try and hide or miscredit those. Because there is no place for them to squeeze in those new ways to do it and suck out their money.

Anti-piracy groups should recognise the futility of their current activities and focus on developing business models that are resistant to or unaffected by piracy.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and it’s not like they’re not going to have to evolve their business models anyway. Why not do something that actually works rather than flogging the dead horse some more?

There are a number of excellent reasons to beef up the security on the internet that have nothing to do with filesharing. Privacy isn’t the dirty word that governments would have everyone believe.

The problem with ISPs offering VPN themselves is that they have legislative requirements here to enable telecommunications interception.

The ISPs would do better to form relationships with VPN providers overseas and simply offer discount codes for their customers. They are offering customers a choice of their own rather than opening the ISP to potential legal liability (for preventing lawful interception and/or metadata collection).

Safe harbour exclusions are always going to be used selectively to enrich the friends of the government. Just because a liability exists doesn’t mean it’s ever going to be actioned by a government taking suitcases of cash from the potential targets of that action.
