Let's see now... The corporations take jobs away from people in one country and send the work to another one where wages are low and where they don't have to worry about their own country's "inconvenient" laws protecting workers and consumers. The amount of lost wages is certainly comparable to what the media companies claim to be losing.

Now that global markets make it possible for consumers and distributors of media to do basically the same thing, the media companies have their bowels in an uproar.

It's not about justice, fairness, or even "respect for the law". It's power and money and nothing more. Why do you think corporations spend such huge amounts on lobbying? It certainly isn't in the interest of justice and fairness. They simply want to manipulate the lawmaking process to help them get more power and money. It's ALL about power and money.

And I almost forgot. There's still peoples' own personal sites. People can run their OWN FTP servers and web servers, and host their own files for download. And if a person is a fan of a particular show, they might have a page say "and now for eps of that show, go here to download.". Not to mention that Veoh can host whole shows posted illegaly by people and it supports whole downloads. It will be up until someone reports it or something.
The ONLY way to stop piracy (and this is what the movie industry needs to think aoubt) is FULL ISP POLICE. What I mean is an ISP would have a dedicated department to write "pirate catching computer code". It would analyze EVERY bit of EVERY packet of data going through that ISP. If it detected the presense of any data associated with pirated stuff (regardless of protocol HTTP, FTP, UDP, TORRENT, ED2K, etc), it would find the sender's and intended recipient's IP address with proxy busting search code that can find REAL IP addresses even if the signal was going through 1000 proxies, and then IMMEDIATLY block the connection so that that act of piracy would be STOPPED IN ITS TRACKS (preventing the movie industry from losing money to it). Then it would auto-email the sender and recipient's IP and street addresses to the FBI so they could locate the people's houses and make the arrests before the pirates before they even knew the law was onto them, preventing a escape.

If you absolutely feel you HAVE to do that illegal crap though, there's still Megaupload, Rapidshare, and Mediafire. As for DHT and Peer Exchange those are active by DEFAULT in the most popular bittorrent client, uTorrent.

There is also the LEGAL status of pirated stuff. It is LEGAL to rip a DVD for personal use, but if I send that copy to someone who has NOT bought it and has not payed for it, it is breaking the LAW! We live in a country of law and order. The movie industry is only taking action to enforce laws already there! NOT make new unfair laws or something. If you disagree with a law that does NOT give you the right to violate it. And the trackers VERY MUCH ARE responsible for piracy that is conducted using their service. If you are a taxi driver and someone who just robbed a bank gets away because YOU drove them (even if you didn't know the person had just robbed a bank), you should expect the police to come a knockin on your door and haul you into court, because YOUR actions aided a criminal. Same goes for trackers that were use by people to support their software or movie or music piracy.
