[...] iTunes Leaks Stargate Atlantis: On iTunes, Apple offered what it thought was the season premiere of the sci-fi TV show Stargate Atlantis, but actually sold the fourth episode instead. It didn’t take long for the episode to be uploaded onto BitTorrent and other P2P networks, so there was no way out of this screw up. To make up for it, Apple offered the actual season premiere and an iTunes credit for $2. The mistake was caused by a production number mixup. [...]

Clif,

I Administrated PV content on the Japanese iTunes store for over a year. Every single piece of media that is sent MUST be authorised at apples end with accordance to whatever agreement. Too Often we would receive media that didn't meet strict requirements and thus we altered it however required. If this episode was sent to us with date information attached in the notes it would be either ignored or questioned.
BUT release dates ARE separate and we ONLY go by what date is in the agreement. Absolutely nowhere else. You can send whatever date in the notes it doesn't change a thing.
The things that count, can't be altered by someone sending us media.
This is a human mistake at Apple that does happen from time to time.

I don't work for them now.

Steve -- "Release dates isn't included with the media uploaded, that's completely separate"

I have seen their version of Media Producer. It most certainly gives the release dates, just as it gives ways to upload multiple versions of quality or to select DRM (though the one I played with, I couldn't change this...probably something to do with preexisting contracts).

Not to say Apple doesn't make a lot of mistakes. I just wish people wouldn't go around assigning blame so that they can feel somewhat empowered, but if it makes you happy, go ahead and believe you are right and thus sticking it to the man. Oh wait, that is what this entire site is all about!

Clif,
Once your friends upload the content its then up to apple to administer the media via contractual agreements. Release dates isn't included with the media uploaded, that's completely separate
So in short, Apple made a mistake
Everyone makes mistakes - let's move on.

What I find most shocking is not the leak but rather the fact that Stargate Atlantis actually has fans.

Seriously. have you watched that show? SG1 from seasons 1-5 was DECENT but it just basically sucks since Atlantis.

Talk about jumping the shark!
