iTunes Store Mistakingly Leaks Stargate Atlantis Episode
Written by Ernesto on October 07, 2007Apple has made a huge mistake by offering the fourth episode of the popular science fiction TV-show “Stargate Atlantis” instead of the season premiere via its iTunes store. Soon after the episode leaked it spread to BitTorrent and other P2P networks.
The mistake was has not been made public by Apple but caused quite a bit of uproar among hardcore fans of the show. In an attempt to set things straight, Apple offered the actual season premiere and $2 iTunes credit to all the Stargate Atlantis fans who accidentally downloaded episode 4.
The mistake was apparently caused by a mix up between the production number and the broadcast number of the episodes. Stargate Atlantis is not shot in a chronological order and the fourth episode, named “Doppelganger”, was the first episode that was shot for the fourth season, it therefore carried 401 as production number. The iTunes store mistakingly thought that this was the broadcast number and offered it as the season premiere.
The wrong episode was available in the iTunes store for 24 hours before it was replaced by the real season premiere episode “Adrift”
Not surprisingly, the leaked episode - which is scheduled to air two weeks from now - is already widely available on BitTorrent and other filesharing networks. It’s not known if Apple will be compensating MGM, the production company of Stargate Atlantis, but we are sure they will be more careful next time.

If I were the production company, I’d question why Apple had the wrong episode in the first place….
id think thay would have a few at a time
If i could have the episode before it airs every week, i would pay for it.
I though apple was an almighty prefect?! What the hell is with all the stupid things they are doing lately?
What i dont get why the *beep* does a company like Apple have the upcoming seasons prior before airing on television?
Than the studio should not wonder that their stuff leaks if they don’t keep the amount of ppl that have before airing small.
Hope they get sued their *beep* off.

I have friends that work in the MI that are responsible for uploading the music to the iTMS.
In every instance, they are the ones that control what is uploaded, the restrictions (i.e., Album Only) and the dates these are supposed to be released. The only thing Apple does is to occasionally create custom landing pads in collaboration with the labels.
I have a hard time believing that Apple would be the ones screwing things up here as the content creators do all the heavy lifting here…
What I find most shocking is not the leak but rather the fact that Stargate Atlantis actually has fans.
Seriously. have you watched that show? SG1 from seasons 1-5 was DECENT but it just basically sucks since Atlantis.
Talk about jumping the shark!

Once your friends upload the content its then up to apple to administer the media via contractual agreements. Release dates isn’t included with the media uploaded, that’s completely separate
So in short, Apple made a mistake
