For those of you who may or may not know about Winny.

There is an English Translation, But it will do you some good, But not much, Seeing as the filenames are in Japanese, but if you can provide Japanese filenames, You are in the good.

Another bad sideeffect is that you are being somewhat of a detriment to the network, Insofar as it is highly likely you don't have the network capacity as what is available in Japan for domestic use, The minimum upload speed on Winny is 50k I do believe.

Winny itself hasn't been cracked, The forum system however has.

After Dark and the networks that are like it, 'Destined to succeed Winny' type networks are not produced by the Winny dev team, They are made (mostly) by people on 2ch.

If you are looking for Something in Japanese, I would highly suggest eMule and still search in Japanese, Many Taiwanese and Chinese get files from Japan and then crossshare them on eMule.

Toodles.

Been watching too much Bleach and listening to too much Asian Kung-Fu Generation? :p

The only time I had a problem with the ratio not working correctly, was when I was running Peer Guardian while torrenting. If a person donated $5.00 a month, Demonoid automatically gave you a 1.0 ratio score. There is no excuse for anyone not donating at least once in a while to Demonoid, and there is no excuse for anyone on Demonoid to not have at least a .5 ratio. Leechers can go cry somewhere else, I have no sympathy for them. They brought on their own problems.

STFU n00b!!

My ration always worked!!!
NO U!. it didn't work 99% of the time for 99% of the people. and i was a member of demonoid for more than a year.
Wrong wrong wrong. It actually mostly worked all the time. Yes, sometimes it had hiccups and sometimes the rationes wouldn't get applied for a day or two, but if you were around for a while, it evened out in the end. If you were that close to 0.5, you suck anyway, so you'll get no sympathy from me.

I think "Share" is most popular p2p software in japan.
This software based on winny,
but encryption, anonymity and down speed are totaly improved.
DL/UP speed is 40M/18M though a general 100M internet connection is used.
When downloading very recent movie or image,DL speed is over 70M usually.
They are insane. WinMX? -> undead
Couple years ago,WinMX was most popular p2p app in japan before winny was released.By the way, naming of Winn was came from WinMX(Win M→n X→y)
Anyway, in japan, file trading(not sharing) culture still exist.
Some users are runninng closed opennap compatible serrver and trading file of specific genre.
I think, This is a reason why the users of bittorrent is so lower than any other world , too.

Japanese internet connections are fast... I have internet through KDDI and I get 100M up 100M down (supposedly) in reality I get about 30M down and 15M up but that is still plenty fast for me.
I downloaded some torrents the other day and left it going while I was shopping, came back 3 hours later and my ratios where all at 20+, I had uploaded about 40G in a few hours!

Winny is a big deal here in Japan, but only if you are after Japanese stuff, otherwise stick with torrents.

In contrast to other places in the world, PC-like computers have not been very popular for home use. Video consoles and mobile phones are far more popular. Hobbies like "computing" were and still are more geekier than elsewhere. I think that kind of explains why Japan is behind when it comes to file-sharing. You can't do that very efficiently with your video console or cell phone. Last but not least, Unicode-friendly file-sharing was not always around. BitTorrent has no such problem but some software and networks are often ASCII-centric. This isn't always immediately obvious unless you look under the hood.

Some guy said that Perfect Dark (or After Dark, as he called it) was made by the same guy who wrote winny. That's incorrect. The man who made winny is currently being prosecuted by the japanese police for writing it in the first place. He's too high profile to be writing the program. Besides, Perfect Dark has totally different coding patterns than winny has.
