Jericho Season 2 Leaks on BitTorrent
Written by Ernesto on January 13, 2008The first three episodes of CBS’s TV-series “Jericho” have leaked to BitTorrent a month before its official premiere date. The popular show was initially canceled last year, but after several protests from angry fans CBS decided to revive it. Nuts!
To most fans it came as quite a shock when CBS announced the cancellation of Jericho March last year. The show had a huge fanbase, and several blogs and communities organized protests to revive the show.
Jeff Braverman, one of the most loyal fans, even went as far as dumping 5,000 pounds of nuts at the CBS offices in New York. CBS’s Vice President of Communications, Chris Ender said that the Jericho protests were the biggest they’d ever seen: “It’s been an impressive display of passion from a loyal audience. You have to tip your hat to their ability to get attention and make some noise.”
Initially CBS, who donated the nuts to charities, wasn’t planning on reviving the show, but after more fans went nuts they eventually did. The official premiere date of the second season was set for February 12, 2008, but today, several weeks before the planned return, the first three episodes of season 2 (ripped from a promotional DVDscreener) are already uploaded to several BitTorrent sites. Perhaps the recent leaks are a gift to the dedicated fans of the show?
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that TV-shows were leaked on purpose. Last fall an unusually large number of pre-air TV shows appeared on BitTorrent sites, in some cases several months before their scheduled air dates. Many of those leaks appear to be inside jobs, and TV executives are starting to realize that leaking shows to BitTorrent can help promote them.
Whether Jericho was leaked on purpose remains unclear, but I guess the thousands of fans who already downloaded the show today don’t really care where it came from.

hahahaha… to bad for them.
Jericho will never see Season 3 if people don’t watch it somewhere besides here. We need ratings for these first 3 eps.
NUTS!!!!!!!!!
I’m not going to watch the leaked episodes, because as Jane said, it needs to be watched somewhere where CBS can see statistics.

The first three episodes were provided via DVD screener to key TV critics and reporters. My guess is that’s where the leak originated. I can’t imagine anyone doing this deliberately.
If you want the show to survive, watch it on the network, not on the torrents.
“If you want the show to survive, watch it on the network, not on the torrents.”
I’m sorry, but thats bs.
Btw, you seem to be yet another person that still thinks the world is flat (aka “besides the US there is nothing else out there …”).
ded show should stay ded
Yeey… now… where do I get em…?
This is great, but keep in mind the only way to have more than the 7 episodes scheduled is to give the show good ratings.
Watch it on torrents, but also on TV and buy the DVD if you have the money (and like the show, obviously).
The only people who really need to watch the show on broadcast TV are the “Nielsen Families”.
They’re the only ones who actually count towards ratings, Joe Q. Public makes no difference whatsoever - until it hits DVD of course.
“I’m sorry, but thats bs. Btw, you seem to be yet another person that still thinks the world is flat (aka ‘besides the US there is nothing else out there’).”
Not at all. What I am here to tell you (hear me or don’t) is that if enough people don’t watch the show ON THE NETWORK, it will cease to exist. Nielsen ratings may be an outdated system, but it is still how TV shows live and die. In that sense, the world is still “flat.”
Again I say, if you want the show to survive, watch it on the network. Bravo for the torrents, but they accomplish nothing for the program.
Exactly, don’t bother watching it on TV unless you know a Nielsen family then get them to watch it! TV is lower quality and has commercials, why would we do that? Do buy the DVD though.
@12, i didn’t mean to agree with you, your post just came before mine, but why would you still think that people who don’t have a nielsen box make any difference where they watch the show? Does it hurt too, to use Tivo and skip the commercials in your world?
I generally watch TV shows live, so I rarely skip the commercials (but hit the “mute” button once in a while). Without commercials, there would be no television as we know it. You might want to try supporting some of the show’s sponsors.
And I agree — if you don’t have a Nielsen box, you don’t count. But project current behavior forward, and in twenty years, there will be no more network television.
All the episodes (1-3) have been downloaded, tested and reuploaded on various sites.

FTFA “To most fans it came as quite a shock when CBS announced the cancellation of Jericho March last year. ”
Nobody on the IMDB boards was shocked. I quit watching when it became obvious the focus was soap rather than actual story.
Damn, more decent shows get ruined with these silly sub plots that end up drowning out the original stories that made them watchable to begin with.
Love this show, glad to get to see these episodes early. I wonder if these “leaks” are actually done by the studio themselves to help create a buzz about the show.. Just remember to watch it on tv when its on so it don’t get canceled again.
Is there a stream of this anywhere?
i don’t think there is supposed to be a S03, the reason S02 is only 7 episodes is to make an ending.. so i assume it will end pretty “well”, i.e bad guys dead and good guys alive..
This got me a little worried, as 3 episodes is almost half the freaking season (total of 7 episodes)…
I do hope that the leak will revive that crazy internet blietz again. When we worked for Jericho to return, I think almost the “entire internet” knew about the campaign. I hope this time the “entire internet” (and ofc the general population in america) starts blitzing the internet with jericho postings and interest again.
And of course I hope that some of you out there will also stream the episodes on CBS.com after the official air. That way we at least give them something in return for un-cancelling our favorite show. You don’t even have to watch it, just stream a few episodes while you do something else.
And of course if you are a Nielsen household: Watch it live!!
As for if the leak was intended… I don’t think so. One episode I could believe, but not 3 out of a total of 7.
This is good - because what needs to happen in order for this show to get the ratings it needs, is for it to get attention. And this is a good way of doing that.
Now, everyone who downloads this - REMEMBER to set your TIVOs and whatnot to record the show when it airs, and if you’re in a Nielsen family (which I doubt, but OK) *TUNE IN*. Also, if you know anyone in a Nielsen household - make sure they know of the show and knows how important it is to make sure those Nielsen numbers are high.
Oh, and:

BSGTV is a scene group notorious for taking stuff leaked to *P2P*, modifying it slightly (so as to be in compliance with “scene rules”) and passing it off as their own within the scene. Please do note; this was NOT leaked to the scene, it was leaked to P2P.
Try watching in Oz. Local network yanked it and there is no sign of them even completing season 1.
#4 and #12 - Watching it on the network will not do ANY good at all. TV ratings are not provided by your cable company and they have no clue as to what you are tuned in to on your TV at any given moment. TV ratings are taken from surveys and samples of people.
from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings
Measuring ratings
Nielsen Television Ratings are gathered by one of two ways; by extensive use of surveys, where viewers of various demographics are asked to keep a written record (called a diary) of the television programming they watch throughout the day and evening, or by the use of Set Meters, which are small devices connected to every television in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a “Home Unit” connected to a phone line. Set Meter information allows market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their TV. In addition to this technology, the implementation of individual viewer reporting devices (called people meters) allow the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups. In 2005, Nielsen began measuring the usage of digital video recordings (TiVo, for example) and initial results indicate that time-shifted viewing will have a significant impact on television ratings. The networks are not yet figuring these new results into their ad rates at the resistance of advertisers.[1]
Therefore watching the torrent is NOT going to affect the ratings (unless you have one of those boxes, which frankly, seems a bit big-brotherish).
Just watched the 3 eps. They were great ! Captivating as before. They didn’t hold back much on budget and they manage to keep most of the important characters.
