MAFIAA wants to freeze Dotcom's assets to ensure when (er sorry, if) they win, he has money to pay their fines... OK... But I'm curious as to why, when they've gone after how many others for copyright violations, they're only applying this logic to Dotcom...

Back in the day, when they started going after then college student Joel Tannenbaum, did they demand his assets be froze to ensure he would be able to pay off his fine? Between tution, text books, keggers, frat dues, etc it is almost impossible for a college student not to make their financial assets disappear, before MAFIAA could get their sticky fingers into the pot...

But for some reason, I don't seem to remember hearing anything about freezing assets during his trial... I'm kind of thinking while they probably want to make sure they get their money, they have ulterior motives for wanting the money frozen and un-accessible so bad. Unlike Tannenbaum who probably only had a few thousand to his name and living off of minimum wage jobs (typical college student) Dotcom has billions. More than enough to hire several teams of high priced lawyers... Lawyers that could probably give MAFIAA a run for their money... If Dotcom could mount a legit defense there's a possibility that MAFIAA might not be able to contribute to everyone on the jury's re-election campaigns and could possibly end up loosing the case... And if they loose such a high profile case their omniscience could be put into question. And if that happens, the US might wonder why we need to give them sole non-oversighted ability to decide who can have a web presence or not, simply because they don't like how a person acts...

Youtube has that. Ad-supported "free" apps have that. Websites that get money from CPM ads do that. Hell, record labels and book publishers do that. If a TV show isn't watched by enough people, it stops getting made.

Canonical could have made money with Ubuntu through Megaupload which would probably have been a preferred download method to those with ISP (upload) data caps/throttling over using torrents.

Megaupload is currently the 23,871st most visited site according to Alexa. More than 31 months since it was shut down, and it is *still* in the top 100,000 most visited sites. Are you seriously suggesting all the linkrot causing it to remain popular is because of pirated material?
