Klaxxon Starts Where aXXo Left Off
Written by Ernesto on December 20, 2007A few weeks ago we reported that the popular DVD ripper aXXo decided to take a break and stopped releasing new material for the time being. Around the same time a new face entered the non-scene scene and whenever people searched for aXXo torrents, KLAXXON rips started to appear.
The last official aXXo torrent was uploaded over a month ago, after that is has been awfully quiet. When aXXo was still active, an estimated one million people downloaded his DVDrips every month. This did not go unnoticed to malware peddlers and anti-piracy organizations who used the aXXo tag to spread their evil. However, it now seems that a new ripper called KLAXXON, is also benefiting from aXXo’s popularity.
It’s safe to say that KLAXXON’s name is inspired by aXXo, thereby using the popularity of aXXo to promote his/her DVDrips in the search results of BitTorrent sites. It’s an effective way to get attention because even after a month of absence, aXXo is still among the most searched keywords on most BitTorrent sites.
It turns out that KLAXXON’s timing was spot on. Intentionally or not, the rips (mostly older titles) started to appear on torrent sites a few days before aXXo posted his last torrent. The quality of the rips is not bad according to most of the comments. The only thing thats seems odd are the file sizes, they vary quite a bit, from 500MB to well over 1GB.
I doubt whether it’s wise, but KLAXXON even has a weblog with more details about the releases and a requests page where we read:

It looks like KLAXXON enjoys pleasing their “loyal fans” on their way to BitTorrent stardom. A hobby that turns out to be quite risky to some, I’m sure that the anti-pirates already placed their spotlights on this newcomer.

Who said it was recent? I’ve had his page bookmarked for a while from mininova. There are a few I might pick up every once in a while. However, why do you make it seem like this is recent? His uploads go back at least a few months.
Oh, and I think he’s just as good as FXG or RoCK67. TorrentBox is a great site to find rippers, I’ve noticed.
Apart from Klaxxon other good ones are Newartriot, nhanc3, FxG, FxM, Rock67 etc.
They’re forming a nice public release hydra.
As for the 700 mb or 1.4 gb rule, I think it should go away coz noone uses CDs anymore. Its better to use variable sizes depending on movie length so as to maintain a constant quality at small size.

I still use CDs. If I’m going to burn a DVD, I’d just get the 4 gig one. I prefer a smaller size so it doesn’t clog up my HDD.
However, I agree that longer movies need a larger file size. As long as his encodes are good, then I can’t see an extra couple MBs being a problem.
Hopefully he’ll be less of a drama queen than that aXXo kid.
Dont know where Truth is getting his torrents from. Klaxxon’s RE Extinction looks very good to me, and I watch 720P trailers on my set up………

Having said all that, I dont care if you call yourself butt-porker, if you release good stuff thats all that matters, anything that contributes to our P2P scene is welcome. More good dvdrippers out there the better.

My Philips DivX DVD player has a limit on what resolution it will play back… If I put a HD or a HiRes rip or cap of something in it, it won’t play. Don’t hate on CDs. No one said you have to put it on a CD. Plus, my ISP hates me enough without adding needlessly to my bandwidth to satisfy some geek with a hard-on for pixels.

There are others uploaders, better than this one, taking aXXo’s place =). The “FX”’s, from Mininova are a good example. FXG and FxM are uploading new releases, with great quality. You should do a post for them, to increase their popularity. This way, more people would download from them, and there would be more seeders =)

Lol, true enough! If we lived in a world where bandwidth is as fast as we were promised years ago, or even as fast as we pay for, we could down an HD movie as fast as a ST movie now; five hours is an acceptable amount of time to spend getting a movie.
Unfortunately, we don’t. We limit ourselves to downloading only what will take a reasonable amount of time (thereby self-capping ourselves) and still the ISPs bitch at us to stop. (Wah, life’s not fair:)
Yeah, given the opportunity (i.e. at least quadruple my current bandwidth) and I’d download HD. But most of us don’t have the luxury of speeds that high.

they all looked like absolute pixelated shit to me. never once saw a good encode in the 10+ movies i tried
i guess its all some random circumstances, wich caused his rips to become popular and create a snowball effect. the only thing they had going for them was there smaller size.
legit scene rips look 10x better than any axxo rip, even those the same size are noticeably better.

Actually with most of these uploaders I’m sure they’re all made with either AutoGK or Handbrake. There is no professionalism in them. However they work damn well on a standalone DivX player, and given that I don’t have HDTV, their picture is perfectly fine for my needs and there are more seeders when they build a fanbase.
However, this KLAXXON guy is obviously just around to capitalize on the success of aXXo, given that his name includes “axxo.”

Maybe I’m too old-fashioned but I never liked “indie” rippers like aXXo, and I think it has to do with the perceived image of such benevolent individuals. The truth is anyone can put any name on a file. If I were suddenly compelled to rip movies and label them as aXXo, I’d probably fool the average leech with ease.
Another thing is I never understood the obsession with AC3 audio, often taking up nearly 1/2 the file size at the expense of video quality. If a movie’s sound track is worth the 5.1 treatment, then I’d rather have a larger file with better quality overall. Maybe that’s just me.
The most important thing by far, is that we old-schoolers aren’t fond of piracy being so mainstream. Ask any supposed “warez d00d” about this, and if he/she thinks it’s cool to popularize the scene, I think you should beat them over the head with a DVD burner. That’s why the respectable groups don’t release torrents nor hang out on P2P nets. The scene was supposed to be tightly controlled from the very beginning, which was how we kept things safe. People get busted because they attract too much attention. If they were only trading with their friends like the good old days, piracy might still be a hobby rather than a plague.

Nobody knows what they’re talking! First, you’re arguing about free illegal shit! If you’re that picky, go to your local Blockbusters and rent, meaning pay for DVD quality! If you’re so stupid to pay for mega bucks home stereo & video equipment but are watching pirated movies than you’re too stupid to live!
The only decent free quality of pirated movies come in a full 2 CD disc XVID format of a DVDrip. The release group Diamond does this well, when you go down to a 1 CD format, you loose both video & audio quality. If you have a Dixv player, which is all you need–just download a 2 CD DVDrip of a movie.
If you still have a lousy plain DVD player than convert the XVID to DVD format, there’s lots of software packages for this purpose. But don’t bother to waste time to merge CD 1 & CD 2, you’ll usually end up with audio sync problems. Just make each CD a separate DVD. Or if you have the time and don’t care how long it takes to download, you can download a complete DVD-R format and just burn it directly onto a DVD RW (don’t waste money on non-rewritable DVD’s–just watch the movie, erase it and burn a new movie)!
Other than that, you’re looking at Russian illegal DVDrips, called R5 Line (Line is English, whereas most plain R5 release are in Russian). But even then the first few releases are screw ups, then after that come the “proper” or fixed versions.
The last decent quality, which I’m not a fan of are the DVD Screeners. These are industry insider releases that aren’t supposed to be seen by the public. They all come with “property of…” stamped warnings and other intrusive problems like video changing to Black & White every so often, etc. The problem with all scene group releases is that they try to fix these problems and their efforts are all in vain! The major problem is that most groups over-crop the video to get rid of any border size warning “property of…”. Then comes the constant blurred out digital trick of attempting to block any other intrusive inside the picture “property of…” warnings and they look awful!
The problem with DVD Screeners is that there’s only one original copy and every release group over-crops, edits to hell and basically screws up the video & audio by trying to tinker with it. The best example of this is with the screener of “I Am Legend”; there were releases then there are plenty of “propers” but all are being NUKED! Meaning that something has gone wrong and as I say, something always goes wrong when the scene groups try to chop up & edit DVD Screeners.
So the bottom line is either pay to rent or download the 2 CD XVID format of a DVDrip.
That’s my 2 cents!!!

Thats why you get the HIGHDEF rips (about 4.5gigs) stick them on a dvd and play them on your dvd player (most can play xvid) so on your 1080p 720 tv you can have HighDef content. Why else do you think groups like hV and Septic are gaining in popularity?
Why would anybody write CDs or even DVD’s today. Havn’t you heard of HDMI or S-Video. And many TV’s play content from flash thumbdrives. Even HDD’s are cheaper than DVD’s. Welcome to the digital age morons !

STUPID…STUPID…STUPID; to people who are going off on a spending spree on high definition! First, it’s absolutely useless to purchase a high definition TV (HDMI) when most TV providers, cable or satellite still are broadcasting non HD programs and provide only a few digitally received channels!
Second, high definition is different than wide screen; only now some prime time TV shows are being shot in wide screen format. So if you’re like me, watching Law & Order on your TV gives you a black space above & below the picture. If you have a wide screen TV, the picture fits perfectly but it’s still not high defintion!
High definition is shot for very few TV specials and that’s about it! Actors don’t want it because high definitions shows the details of their face to clearly and for some actresses, they look terrible with normal TV make-up being shot on high definition! But what’s the use of buying an expensive high definition TV, when no TV shows are being shot in this format?
So that means you’re paying lots of money for a technology that might be easily replaced by something in the future? Remember lazer discs, it took 15 years to be replaced by CD’s (compact discs) but only a handful of movie titles were ever offered on these record size lazer discs! This is the exact same thing being played out with Blu-ray Disc versus HD(high definition)DVD; I don’t know about you but I’m not prepared to waste my hard earned money on technology that might not be around in 5 years!
So you’re telling people to spend lots of money for high definition technology to only play a few movies titles, as I say STUPID…STUPID…STUPID!!!
I’ll stick to watching movies on my TV being read by my inexpensive Divx player thank you very much!

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Different movie lengths can be fit across different amounts of DVDs. Joining two files does not always result in sync errors, Avidemux does it for me perfectly every time. Also, it sounds like you waste a lot of DVDs. Plenty of standalone DivX players have file size and dimension limits. For example, mine will not play a file over 2 gigs. Also, I don’t need to bother buying more DVD-Rs when I can fit a movie quickly on one of my CD-Rs.
Oh, and High Definition is still really in its mainstream infancy, to say it’s useless is insane.

Build yourself a cheap HTPC (Home Theater PC) and you have no problems whatsoever. You can use quite old components like a PIII-800, which is also available with passive cooling, so no noise, and it plays back almost everything.
I’ve tried 2 standalone players and both had problems with many xvid and divx movies, although both got high grades in test reviews. The HTPC works like a charme…
I’ve watched over 2000 divx movies on my standalone player.
I burn each one to cd in less then 3 minutes.
NEVER had even one that wouldn’t play.

That’s good for you. Mine had. I guess the problematic files were mostly old Divx 3.1. Maybe they weren’t encoded properly, who knows.
Anyway, I wouldn’t want to give it away whatsoever, because it has still some other advantages. Like the ethernet connection to my main PC, the integrated hardrive, and the possibility to use it as a digital VCR… :)

I don’t believe you for one minute, for no one that can afford a 6k stereo system is out downloading ripped music and movies. The person who has a 6K stereo system is out buying the best HD or BLURAY and whatever that version of supreme quality music on dvd. It’s you that wastes money buying CD-R’s (and not even CD-RW’s)! Also I do know what I’m talking about when I’m suggesting to people who don’t have DIVX players and need to convert avi’s to DVD format! Most people who break up a long movie in to 2 CD’s, each approx. 700 MB, combining them does usually end up with syncing problems! The easiest solution is to convert each CD into a separate DVD. But you can burn both parts on one 4.7 GB DVD+/-RW, watch part 1 and the watch part two–simple! That’s easier, more convenient for people plus you don’t need to worry about syncing problems; there’s no need to combine 2 avi’s into big one big avi file and then proceed to convert a 1.4 GB avi to a single 4.7 GB DVD.

You just make sure no one avi file is greater than 2 gigs and you burn your movies on rewritable DVD’s–your argument is illogical!!!

You see buddy, when you burn it to cd, not only can you now watch it on your inexpensive divx player, you ALSO get to put that copy away, like back on an empty spool, or in a cd case. You see, now you don’t have that file sitting or taking space on your hard drive and you can watch it again, or even copy it back to your hard drive if you want.

The average rate AT BEST to burn and covert an avi to DVD is about 30 minutes, and again thats at best probably at very low quality settings.

Why would you even THINK of converting one movie into TWO DVDs, and then assault my logic? Why not merge them, and then convert to DVD? Oh, wait, you think this results in errors every time. I’m sorry if my merging files together without breaking them displeases you, but I’d rather not have my movies be interrupted midway. The Bourne trilogy fits wonderfully on a single DVD with my method. Sorry, no sync errors. I use Avidemux to merge 2 CD releases, it works better than Virtualdub for me, I’d recommend it to anyone attempting to merge files. You should give it a try.

Why? I want to watch a movie as a single file, not have my movie experience broken up into pieces. And actually, I don’t burn 2-CD releases to CD-Rs. I was just saying that if I found a 1-CD release, I could easily fit it onto a CD-R, this is why having the 700MB multiple rule is useful. However, I want to keep my movies rather than copy over them as you seem to do. This is why I do not use DVD-RWs, though they are quite useful for current television episodes. Also, why did you think I was trying to burn a file over 2GB onto a CD-R? That’s insane. I just don’t want an ENTIRE MOVIE I burn to be over 2GB in size. Yes, total. couple comments, one question. Question first…
Someone mentioned using septic style hd releases on a standalone player…. is this right? Is there a standalone player that can play 720p x.264 w AAC/DTS in mkv format from a DVDR? I’ve already made quite a few of these discs for my collection, but have to play them from my computer (which I have hooked up to my receiver/hdtv with component video and spdif audio). If so, do you know any models of standalone players that can do this?
Comment to the guy who suggests using RW media then reusing the discs, that seems pretty pointless… if you’re not going to keep the movie, why bother burning it? Just run component (or hdmi) from your video card to tv and play it on the computer… [I guess for axxo quality stuff svideo would probably suffice I guess if your video card doesnt have better outputs....]
And another comment to someone saying how it’s good klaxxon understands different sizes for different movies. You gotta realize there is a very good reason for 700mb divx files… cuz they fit on a CD, so instead of having the same quality for every movie, we get the absolute best possible quality we can fit on a cd… no point in 500mb file for this purpose, it’d still take a whole cd, so why not make it 700mb and better quality. Also, even axxo sometimes made 800mb versions of really long movies, but 700mb is more common as not all CDRs can write 800mb discs, and the blanks arent nearly as cheap…

Why the fuck would I wait months for a dvd rip (in this case Legend) when I can download a perfectly decent DVDScr now, and watch it on my 10K system?
So what if the sound is not coming through in x.x - these days i don’t need that, I rarely get a chance to go to the cinema, and I don’t want to wake the children, so DL’ing movies is fine by me.

I gave the KLAXXON entity a try and the quality IS GARBAGE. Maybe we can put his name out there a little more though? If we expose the poor quality rippers maybe they can keep the **AA busy while the quality rippers continue to do what they do.
I dont know what rip you downloaded disappointed but i have downloaded several of klaxxons files and the quality has been absolutely perfect even better than axxo’s rips.
Perhaps you are just one of these purist who limit yourselves to living in the past you have elevated axxo to some higher pedestal just because he was popular when in fact his rip’s were no better or worse than the majority of all the other rippers.
Your memory of axxo rips has become clouded in the 3 months he has been away.

SCARCELY HAVE I SEEN A DECENT 1CD RIP THAT HAS AC3 (UNLESS IT’S 2CH 192Kbps). YEAH HE DOES USE A ONE-CLICK ENCODER, BUT HIS SETTINGS OR STANDARDS ARE OUT-OF-WHACK. IF YOU WANT TO USE AC3 5.1, THEN ANYTHING OVER 1:37:00 SHOULD BE DONE IN A 2CD RIP, TO MAINTAIN A DECENT VIDEO BITRATE. (1000 Kbps IS ALWAYS NICE :)) LESS DURATION THAN THAT AND U CAN USUALLY GET AWAY WITH A 1CD RIP (ALTHOUGH I RECOMMEND DOING A 2CD RIP ANYWAYS IF YOU HAVE HIGH-BITRATE 5.1). Who cares what you do to watch the movies, if you like cd then use cd if you like dvd use dvd no one really cares. I my self use my xbox 360 and have never had any complaints. If I want a smaller size file i just run windows media encoder other wise I deal with the size or I can always put it on a cd to upload later on. Theres no right or wrong way to do it. Also if you don’t like aXXo then don’t dl from aXXo, if you do like aXXo then dl from aXXo its that simple.

Wow, can’t believe I read all that, and I don’t even particularly care. Funny how internet psychology works. Personally, I liked aXXo quality, but wasn’t a fan of most of the movies, since I have pretty high standards in the type of films I watch. As for KLAXXON, who cares, doesn’t affect my life any.
