"This means that anyone who passes on Internet traffic could be held liable for the copyright infringements of others. This could include the local coffeehouse that offers free wifi, or even someone’s own Internet connection if it’s shared with others."

Well, so much for Starbucks & et al offering free wifi once this passes... Either that or their coffee is going to jump from $10 for a small to $30 so they can afford the legal expenses in case someone downloads the latest Game of Thrones ep while waiting for their double whipped no foam pumpkin spiced latte and they have to eat the fine when they can't pinpoint which customer downloaded the file.

EDIT Forgot the insanity of criminal sanctions for non-commercial copyright infringement. I seriously doubt judges will like to have the system clogged with people who simply downloaded a movie or song.

In many countries the judges can strike entire laws down. If they don't want to see file sharers clogging up prisons galore, they would just all unanimously strike down that provision of the treaty or law.

I've never seen a judge get disbarred for going against massively unpopular laws.

I apologise if this is OT, but you I could use your advice. I'm UK based something of a novice.

My ISP forwarded a complaint directly from the copyright holder relating to 3 items shared from my connection. The ISP have said:

"The complaint we have received is directly from the copyright holder, as
such we are legally obliged to inform you that we have received the
complaint. The decision on any further action lies solely with the
copyright holder.

I would suggest checking over the devices on your network and if the
material is found then please do delete this to ensure that it is not
being shared by any software such as Torrent clients."

So I take it's not troll. This doesn't appear to be part of the 3
warning system. What will likely happen now, I've asked the ISP this and waiting for a reply. I'm slightly worried. Have been looking at VPN's, but put-off by logs, security, price and loss of speed. Any suggestions or alternative methods, or what do you use?

Thanks.
