Limewire now supports BitTorrent downloads

Written by Ernesto on November 02, 2006

The latest version (4.13) of Limewire now includes BitTorrent support. Although the tweaking options are limited at this point, it is good to see that it is all working fine. BitTorrent support will be extended to the free version in the near future.

Limewire is not aiming to be the most sophisticated BitTorrent client, they just want to provide an extra service to the existing Limewire users. There is not a lot of info on the torrents while you are downloading. No tracker info, no seeds/peer ratio, only the number of sources you’re downloading from, and the download speed of the torrent.

BitTorrent download with Limewire

limewire and BitTorrent

Zlatin, one of the Limewire developers who’s working on the BitTorrent integration said earlier: “one of the advantages is that [Limewire users] don’t need to run a separate program to download the torrent and can manage their downloads in a consistent and unified manner from a single place”. He added that the more experienced “power users” will probably want to stick with their regular BitTorrent client, because these allow advanced management and the fine-tuning of various aspects of the torrent download.

The “limited” BitTorrent Configuration in Limewire

limewire BitTorrent

Limewire is using existing BT clients as a model for the implementation of BitTorrent. Zlatin told that they’ve snatched some clever idea’s (network-wise) from Azureus and the mainline client.

Although this first release is very basic, the plan to add more innovative features and options in the future.

I’ve been waiting for this release… well actually, I’ve been waiting for the Frostwire version of this. Even though I know it won’t be a robust as a client such as uTorrent, I still want to give it a hook.

Does anyone still use this form of p2p filesharing?

I used it not so long ago, but Limewire and BearShare fucks up my PC. As for KaZaA… well, do I even have to tell you? :p
BT is much better… easier to actually get what you want.
Remember when I tried downloading The Matrix 2 & 3. Got gay porn, midget porn, some kinky porn and Titanic. I eventually gave up for a long while, and when I finally got a copy of those movies, they sucked more than those midget sluts.

if this gets people off of BitComet, I support it 100%

Does limewire support encrypted connections? Because when not, its not interesting on most ISP’s to download at all.

Is there a such release for Frostwire?

Well, without peerguardian or some other IP blocker, you are more likely than ever to get watched by MPAA and RIAA,
or any of their watchdog groups that are seeding files through BT and limewire to nab IP’s. They are preparing for a full launch of lawsuits against “small time” downloaders. Protect yourself regardless of what method you use to download, unless you stick only to material that does not fall under intellectual property right laws.

Friends,
i’m pretty new to torrent or P2P sharing, and now downloading Fifa Manager 07 from one of the torrent sites. well, while doing it for the first time i’m getting a little confused with it. here i go…..

1. While the actual file size shown in the torrent site is 3.47GB, the download speed has been very very slow (mostly 1kbps), and interestingly the Upload speed remains considerably high (mostly 10kbps). So far, after one day downloading, i’ve covered 0.8% of the total size (as of BitComet).

2. Now, the downloaded directory shows that already 2.24GB files have been downloaded (about 65%) in the directory. now i’m totally screwed up (because of the lack of my knowledge about p2p). if i consider the status of BitComet, it will take another 99days to download the file, but if i consider the remaining file size to reach 3.47GB, it will be done by another 5/6 hours. so which one should i consider? please help guys. Thanks

No idea about the slow download, but the files there are because it allocates the entire file even when it only gets one small piece, 98% of those files, right now, is zeros. If it doesn’t pick up, you have a few months to wait.

Thanks Dylan for your reply. so, can you or anyone else please clarify one thing for me that, as the download status says that i have got only 1.3% of the 3.47GB total file size (this should be equal to 45MB), but i am seeing that total file size in the destination directory is 2.57GB right now. Sometimes this size is falling way down, then picking it up again. Not only this, but also, the total download status in BitComet reduced from 1.1% to 0.9% this morning. So both of them are fluctuating, and if they do, i basically shouls have no idea how many months (lol) it would take place…….

please suggest guys…….i’m already a bit disgusted with it.

Where can i get this software and have it actually work?….. please help

well, for peerguardian, just do a google for “peerguardian” and it will be the top of the list – from there it is simple to download and install [and make work]…

LimeWire is so slow on my iBook G3 600MHz, I had to remove it. In fact, LimeWire used 60% of the processor. Not for me.

I use open source Transmission.

However that’s nice that LimeWire is supporting torrents.

Is it possible to only download 1 file in a torrent via LimeWire 4.13?

15 Aug 04, 2007 at 01:04 by Nebras

It’s a disaster. I’m using this version now.The torrent files download speed is 1 KB. While Avi download is 10 to 15 KB/s. But it’s awful cause each time I search and download a movie, I get another. For example, I downloaded Harry Potter 5 and when the download has finished I found out it was Harry Potter 3. The only thing I got right was the TV shows. It was fantastic. I download Desperate housewives Season 3 and the Last Season of One Tree Hill. I’d like to add that I tried buying those from Amazon but they said Only USA residence. Quite unfair. Anyway, Thanks to everyone who helped me watching my favourite TV shows.

Hi. Me again. I just want to say that I downloaded the new limewire 4.14. Things had changed quite differently. It seems limewire has quite improved. I downloaded a torrent from isohunt and I opened it using Limewire. it worked great, very smoothly. And Finally I’ve got Harry potter 5. Great work from Limewire Team.

Well-There goes the neighborhood. I left Limewire because of all the bogus files and lousy virus’s. I have no intentention of using that stupid site to download anything again. I’ll stick with Bittornado as a tracker and Mininova as the client. This is not good news for file sharoing at all!
