Limewire To Include BitTorrent Support
Written by Ernesto on June 22, 2006Limewire, one of the most popular filesharing applications just released V 4.12 and announced that limewire will support .torrent downloads in the near future.
It seems that they don’t want to miss out on all the BitTorrent goodness. The limewire blog states:
Starting in the next beta series, LimeWire will feature BitTorrent integration and a custom DHT. Keep a look out for what’s next!

As a self-described torrent freak, what do you think about the integration of .torrent downloads into an otherwise Gnutella-based client?
The more bittorrent support, the better
As long as it’s spyware free, lots of features and light on resources :)
If I’m not mistaken, LimeWire is open source, so there’s really no chance of spyware. If they put it in, someone could just take the source code and make a new application that’s exactly the same, minus the spyware.
I think it’s an excellent move. I love seeing applications like Opera, and now LimeWire integrate Bit-Torrent. I don’t need a whole extra app. for downloads and don’t really want one, however cool the bubbles on the Bits on Wheels icon may look on my OS X dock.
The ultimate would be if iTunes supported Bit-Torrnet. It would revolutionise podcasting all ove again!
Personally I don’t mind having a single application to handle my torrents. I think bittorrent needs apps like µTorrent to guarantee innovation and progress. I abosolutely support bittorrent integration in browsers like Opera and Firefox, and perhaps in windows Vista, but I think we still need some (hard)core bittorrent developers to lead the way.
Second thing is that it may depend on how you use Bittorrent. If I’m downloading a 4.5GB iso, I don’t want to keep my bowser open all the time, and I defenitely don’t want to run an application that consumes a lot of memory, just to download a single file.
i agree with Ernesto , iam running rtorrent now a consolle based client and iam happy with that ..
You guys should check out the LimeWire forums, we’re hoping to get this sort of debate going there because an open-source project is nothing with out productive debate. All this stuff could be helpful.
yeah, but guys, im on a completely differnt side
i have installed the new limewire, while i also have azureus. Now when i download stuff off sites like isohunt, it doesn’t go to azureus anymore, it goes to limewire. and i dont get anywhere because its like, “finding sources” until i close limewire and clear the download. can someone help me on how to download torrents with the new limewire?
yeah its just a bad torrent, keep trying all of the other torrents with similar names and these will probably download within 5 miniuts. did you pay for limewire pro, or get it through bugmenot.

I am new to new to all the deferent choices for downloading mp3’s. Is there a deference between Bit torrent, dit torrent, and torrent, or is it the same thing? I had limewire but lost it somehow when i installed protection on my computer. I was about to upgrade to the new version that was said does not have a bug!
I DOWNLOADED BITTORRENT AND LIMEWIRE AND TRYING TO DOWN LOAD A MOVIE THROUGH LIME WIRE HOW DOES THAT WORK IT IS GOING SO SLOW
I used limewire for bittorent but i have same problem as nik-it is so slow and takes hours, i went bak to azurues and uttorrent ages ago
PLZ Limewire is noting but a program for the dumb and mentally retarded. It is filled with spy ware and virus. Most people that use it have little or no protection for there computer.
