.cbrs are better than Flash or even PDF solutions for comics. And the rabid scanner fanboys are remarkable in getting a product out and even responding to the market by improving their torrents.

The $4.00 32 page book is an anachronism, but the graphic novel works (esp with bookstore distribution). Licensed torrents with some DRM (alas) might be worth a subscription fee. Of course, non-DRM’ed cbrs would be best.

Anyway, scanned/on screen comics are the future.

I download on average 50 comic scans per week……and occasionally buy a tpb……but I would never buy if the comics weren’t available for me to download. As I wouldn’t wanna risk wasting money on shit comics.

Downloading torrents has gotten me out there buying hard copies of comic books. This action by Marvel and DC has totally disgusted and pissed me off. Pages and pages of ads in their comic books aren’t enough money for them; they had to go after Demonoid and Z-Cult FM to make sure they have all the profits to themselves. They should seriously consider having a BETTER distribution system for their comic books. Reprints, a better order for their issue-chronology, merchandising, BETTER storylines, etc.

Going after scanners/uploaders is petty, insignificant, and futile. Marvel and DC need to fix themselves internally, and NOT with lawyers.

But as this doesn’t affect me, I don’t really mind other than the general effect on P2P.

Of course I was interested in his point of view. I and other “pirates” see downloading as useful, but what about the artist? Well, he liked it. He was supposed to get his comics free from Marvel, but they took for ever to ship it. Since he didn’t want to buy his own stuff, he instead downloaded it of the net.

To bad that Marvel and starts to get cranky. Sure, I haven’t used torrents for a long, long while. There are way better ways to get your comics. Hopefully the scanners will be able to continue, if not I guess I have to stop reading.

Sure, I can buy the stuff…sort of. Marvel Comics here in Sweden is close to non exciting. So of course I do my best to support them. DC Comics doesn’t even exist here. What about buying on-line? Well, you can’t really get the “normal” comics but TPB (Trade Paper Backs) are available on Amazon. Problem is that I have to order from Amazon.co.uk and they have a limited supply. There’s a whole lot missing from the Amazon.com

I’m also surprised this is such a big deal, as I would think comic books have the same advantage all books do: Not much loss to piracy, since people strongly prefer reading from paper instead of a screen. You don’t hear about textbook publishers going against those trackers (though, in that case, the selection on trackers is horrible too).

There are plenty of other sites that offer essentially 0day releases. Z-Cult was where I went to pick up back issues that I was interested in, to see if they were worth picking up.

And who is making money on back issues? Not DC or Marvel. They sit in long boxes at the comic stores, or god forbid, in Ziploc bags at dirt malls.

Such a waste.

i stopped collecting about 15 years ago because of prices & stupid glossy covers..and Jim Lee…torrent got me interested again & i sample like crazy, then buy the issues i like. Marvel should have faith in their product, the produce it..then people will buy it regardless of “Free content” via Torrent.

I´ll download them from wherever we move to, or steal them from the comicon. :)

Comics are more intellectually stimulating than most media, and it’s a shame they’re a dying art form. But it’s not because of torrents, its because America is getting stupider by the day. Look to our pathetic myspace/reality TV/kicked in the balls movie humor based society for the root of that.

Many friends who have started browsing comic torrents actually started buying comics; the reason being they were avert to spending $ on something they were unfamiliar w/. comic prices have risen quite steeply since the 80s & 90s. torrents give them a means to become comfortable w/ the genre’s & make informed decisions on what books they want to purchase physically.

i fear the removal of sites like ZCult will inevitably lead to comics becoming even more niche & shrinking even smaller into the crevice of past art forms. hopefully if this does happen, Marvel & DC will have the levelheadedness to rescind their mistake and attempt to mend their relationship w/ their consumer base community.

scans are the best thing to happen to the comic industry…i would not own or even know of 85% of my collection without the scans and the scanning community
