Freenet isn't really our area (the hint is in our name). We cover the legal issues of file-lockers because they face mainly the same issues as bittorrent sites, and are thus largely comparable.

"Havenco VPN" - We don't do sponsored posts. And we try and avoid entities that exist entirely on bull. A UK-based VPN like 'havenco' would be, just wouldn't be a smart choice anyway, because of RIPA and the DEact.("Sealand" is not now, nor has it EVER been, a 'country'. Bunch of squatters on Crown lands, and as much a country is Wy or Lovely is.

"[...] if you sell to US customers in the US [...] then you are subject to US laws on THOSE transactions."

Your statement is factually incorrect.

One of the bedrock principles of international law, developed over a timespan measured in millennia, is that a given government is responsible for the actions of people within its borders - local federal treaties notwithstanding, the creation and enforcement of laws belongs to the sovereign state, not to any outside interloper.

I can't pretend to have read them all, but as I have it, the general rule for extradition treaties is that if it isn't illegal for a citizen to do something in their country, an outside country has no legal standing to demand the extradition of that citizen for that activity.

This is why you aren't generally at risk of extradition to random countries for offenses under foreign law (for example, such as the authorities in any number of countries extraditing Americans for criticising Islam).

This is why the Richard O'Dwyer case (amongst others) attracted such opprobrium that the DoJ felt it needed to settle, rather than continue on to a full prosecution.

This is why the indictment against MU is full of highly-questionable conspiracy and money-laundering claims.

This is why the IP sections of recent international trade agreements such as TRIPS focus on each signatory creating new copyright laws that turn sites "dedicated to" infringement into a criminal offense, rather than a non-extraditable civil tort.

Without this, the US has absolutely no moral right or legal standing to interfere in any foreign citizen's lawful business.
