He has been involved with computers for 21 years and teaches the Law and
Information Technology course at the Faculty of Law at Auckland University. He has written widely on Law and Internet topics.

Seems like the court picked the right guy for the job.

Yes you get to see the evidence so you can defend yourself. The issue here is that the judge has said that if they are extraditing him to the USA for trial, then the judge needs to decide if he should go through that trial itself rather than if he is just to be extradited.
Because the evidence is being held in the USA, the USA government is arguing that they shouldnt have to send it to NZ. So even if he cannot defend being extradicted, he is still now going to have a copy of all the evidence to prepare his defence in the USA

He can sue for compensation from the NZ government but we dont really call it suing – its a much more simplified and realistic process.

He was in NZ with limitations- he couldnt buy property over a certain value etc unless he lived here for 2 years etc. which could make it difficult. He would probably have to travel to the USA to sue the government there but upon entering the country he would probably be arrested

He probably wont.
IF he wins his extradition request and successfully defends it then i doubt he would want to step foot in the USA

Basically this just means he can see what they are going to use against him so he can defend himself. He still has to do the actual defending. This means he can stay in NZ but would probably get arrested if he went into the USA
