You're right.. and wrong at the same time.

Retailers have agreements with Microsoft and the companies that build the systems to sell the PC's and laptops with Windows, regardless of what the customer wants. This is why we no longer have a choice as to what OS can be used on a system.

Now-a-days, your average computer user is such a dumb shit that they'll believe everything is fact about computers. This is unless your real tech savvy people, no, not those that are paid like Geek Squad from Best Buy or those from Fry's Electronics or whatever.. no, I mean, independent retailers, local computer stores, or hell, even tech savvy friends educate the morons into making better choices. Its a real dumb world we live in, and Apple is no better than Microsoft. Apple extremely over-prices their shit by about $500-$1500 of a similar system, with similar specs.

Linux is gaining in popularity, but slowly. I, myself, am trying to introduce many people into Linux with an easy-to-use OS at first, and slowly build that knowledge as time goes. Best of all, you only need a working computer to put Linux on it. The average user will not game on that desktop he/she bought at the store, so Linux would make a great alternative with many open-source and *free* programs that work just as well as their paid counterparts.

"He seems to think 1 PC =1 windows OS "

This is what happens when Microshaft can't intimidate PC retailers into instaling Windows on every PC they sell whether the customer wants it or not.

Ther only option we have to avoid buying Windows is to either get a Mac or build our own.

Seriously dude, what the hell are you smoking? That's some crazy shit you pulled out of your ass.

M$ hates any and all competition, mostly because they really can't compete. They can't invent or innovate worth a damn either.

M$ waits for someone else to invent, then they buy or outright steal the idea and claim it as their own - all the while managing to totally fuck it up.

And whats up with that "License" bullshit, if i have four computers i should be able to install my completely overprice copy of Window$ in all of them, but since i only buy - oh pardon me, it's "renting" right?- one "license" i can only install it on ONE FU$%^ING COMPUTER! ... so you're not getting ripped off only one time, but SEVERAL TIMES!.

Microsoft invented Google, Facebook and Linux. Got the Fed's off their back in the US and Europe, they maintained their control of the course and context of development, and everyone thinks they have competition. The best thing Gates did before he retired was he pulled a couple Stanford Grad kids out of school, gave them the code, 1/3 each, since Gates is the richest man in the world, the other 1/3 to close investors, and Google took the heat off Microsoft. Everything else is just a game. Like the Yahoo! charade, which eventually, due to Microsoft antics of making an offer than pulling it because "Yahoo! rejected it outright" when Yahoo! executives claimed they never even had a chance to look at the new offer or even respond, which they vehemently swore their response would have been to accept Microsoft's final offer. Microsoft says they made it, Yahoo! says they never heard of it, the PPC deal went to Google, as if Microsoft controlled the situation such that it would make Yahoo! so incredibly vulnerable to the vultures, that they had to give up control of their PPC to Google and improve their revenues as a result but give up a ton of control and insight into the Yahoo engine. Which was eventually followed by Bing.... Hmm.....

How to make Monkey Boy Balmer blow a fuse:

- Buy a fairly recent model PC from a pawn shop
- Fix, upgrade, and hotrod the hell out of it
- Wipe Winblowz from the hard drive
- Install Linux. Important: Make absolutely certain it's NOT a distro that sold out and became an M$ bitch (MEPIS is my weapon of choice here. YMMV)

Now sit back and laugh as six billion bits of drive-by malware bounce off your bulletproof Linux, and office chairs go flying into orbit because the crooks in Redmond got what they deserve - Nothing! :-) How cool is that?
