You don’t get the big picture here. The music / film industry doesn’t know what to do, and even if told, they still will not do it.

The traditional players are smaller than they used to be and that means that they have fewer employees. It is like a revolution, so who are the first to go? The bright, intelligent people who know what to do. Good people are the first to leave a declining industry.
Many have likely gone into the fast growing tech industry. So who does that leave in the legacy industry? The people who do not know what to do. They are bureaucrats who muck with the system instead of creating new value. That is all that they know.

Also, until copyright is reformed, you will never see old content. It would compete with and reduce the sales of new content.
