MovieX Leeches From The BitTorrent Community
Written by Ernesto on December 01, 2007The private BitTorrent tracker Moviex has been setup and configured to leech from public BitTorrent users. Through some clever modifications, their tracker allows non-members to seed to the private tracker, while downloading is forbidden.

Private BitTorrent trackers are supposed to be private and for registered members only. A non-member that downloads a torrent from a private tracker will usually get a tracker connection failure in their BitTorrent client. They will not be able to download or upload any data from that torrent, rendering the torrent useless to them. This is the basis that most private trackers work upon, but not Moviex.
Lately, several people have noticed a sudden rise in torrent files being uploaded to public indexing sites like Newtorrents, Mininova, and The Pirate Bay. These uploaded torrent files contain two announce URLs, one from The Pirate Bay and a moviex.info URL that always has the same passkey present, presumably the passkey for an anonymous user.
http://www.moviex.info:2710/...3c73mdqxj31q/announce
http://vip.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce
To see a pirate bay tracker URL present in a torrent file is nothing out of the ordinary. So what’s special about the moviex.info URL being present in public torrents? Well, the message you get when trying to connect to the moviex.info tracker if you are not a member might give you a hint.
“Failure: access denied, leeching forbidden, you’re only allowed to seed”
Normally you would get something like: “Failure: unregistered torrent pass.” However, moviex.info allows non-members to seed files, while they are not allowed to download. This is a huge bonus for MovieX and its members. Currently, newtorrents.info provides 1000’s of downloads per day to torrent users and reportedly 50% of the available torrents on that site have the moviex.info tracker URL present, the actual percentage may even be be higher.
It is not unusual for private trackers to upload files to public sites. Most of the time this is done to advertise the tracker, so their community grows. However, we don’t see torrents like this very often, I’m not sure if they do this on purpose, but they are definitely leeching bandwidth from people who only use the public tracker. It’s a pretty nice system if you want your private tracker to gain external seeds along with faster download speeds for your members, It’s however also a very damaging method for any user who is not a member of MovieX.info as they will continually upload pieces of the torrent to users who will give very little if anything at all back.
To see exactly what this tracker configuration does and how it works watch the video below. The video shows two clear examples, one of a non seeded file and one of a seeded file using these rogue torrents, obviously for legal reasons we have renamed the torrents that I used for this demonstration (HQ download).
There is a way to prevent the leeching. If you download a torrent file from a public tracker check the tracker URL’s and remove the moviex.info announce URL if it is present. This will stop you seeding the file on that tracker and in turn not allow members of moviex.info to leech data from you. You could also try blocking their IP Address (206.53.62.206) in your IP filter if you are not a member of the MovieX community.
MovieX have taken the time to code this feature into their tracker and at the moment as far as we can tell they are the only private site exploiting this type of dirty hack to leech from external BitTorrent users. What moviex.info should do is configure their tracker not to allow external users without a passkey to connect to their tracker in any way, instead it would seem they have deliberately setup to leech as much data from the public BitTorrent community as possible and boost their own private community speeds. MovieX deny this is the case and claim these torrents to be no more than simple advertising for the site in an attempt to attract new members?
Update: MovieX is now blocked by PeerGuardian, a simple solution is to download and install the application.

The fact that i’m gay is none of your business. I’m here and i’m queer - get used to it!!!!
Tard Spanker wrote his IQ is 58. Now, correct me if i’m wrong - but i don’t think that’s much. What a mongoloid, he must be very stupid with IQ of 58. I’m suprised he knows how to use a keyboard (but then again, even monkeys can be taught).
@tomo and others who report their ratio to us.
GO FUCK YOURSELF!
If you think anyone believes your bullshit lie about your 5+ ratio you need a knife to the eyeball.
I bet you H&R with the best of the ‘em. (ratio 0.01).
…fuck moviex.
i love how the bitch and complain about H&Rs. H&Rs AT LEAST SEED WHILE THEYRE LEECHING.
bahaha… PG2 fuckin pwnd these assclaps and i hope their founder goes into debt paying “$500 a month” for server fees. MY ASS $500 a month…motherfucker expects us to believe that his dinky fuckin frontpage and private tracker take up enough space and bandwidth to justify that.
all these guys are just butthurt that this page comes up RIGHT UNDER THIERS after a google search. \m,.m/
I was a member of MovieX myself..
only reason i joined so i can take advantage of their “LEECHING” from other torrent users.
for the past 6 months i did not see any changes on my ratio!
even if you a member and your ratio is not above .90, you still can’t use their tracker..
SO FUCK MOVIEX FOR BEING THE LEECHERS THAT THEY ARE..
FUCK OFF MOVIEX THAT’S WHY I ADDED YOU BITCH MOTHERFUCKING LEECHING PUNKS TO MY PEER GUARDIAN BLOCK LIST 2 MONTHS AGO..
502 Bad Gateway,12/21/07
I’ve been a member of MovieX for 4 months now and it’s free. I have downloaded 33GB and seeded 45.39GB. I still use public servers but find MovieX has faster download speeds. I seed every download back up to 1:1 at least and have had no problems. My ratio was as high as 1:6 and is currently 1:38. I believe if we want this system to work in the future we should give back (upload, seed) what we download. If everybody did this and stopped being selfish there wouldn’t be any problems.
lets examine the facts:
1) p2p-users drives up isp costs for non-p2p users by increasing average bandwidth
2) p2p is leeching label revenue
3) movieX is leeching public torrents
4) many public torrent users are leeches
5) I use p2p to download content that I would otherwise might rent or buy
6) most everyone here is like me
conclusion: P2P sucks, MovieX sucks, TPB sucks, I suck, and you suck. Ain’t life grand ;-)
I think that everyone of you need to study the bittoorent protocols. Not only do you not know what the hell you are talking about, you are dumb. I’m not a member of moviex but I see what they are doing. Leeching bandwidth are you crazy? Common you ppl are making something out of nothing. I, myself seed 1 terabite of torrents. Some are mine some are others I’ve downloaded. People learn what you are talking about before you run your big mouth. I’ve lost a lot of respect for Torrent Freak. You guys know what they are doing and it’s no different then what you or anybody else does. Your public torrent sites do it and share trackers.
Another thing, if you don’t like the way they share or think it’s wrong then join their site and pull for changes. I personally do think or see where they are doing anything wrong. So get off of moviex and move to the next site that you want to bad mouth.
A bunch of girls trying to blog about a torrent site that you are wanting to hate on.
I’m not a member of Moviex, nor am I interested in yet another “me-too” tracker. To that extent, I’ve blocked their IP at my firewall :) If they want to run a private tracker, they should have their own seeds. The whole point of being private is to be hidden from poor traders and law enforcement.
If/When Moviex goes down, I’m not going down with them.
so where i can get good of pretty of japanese pr0n ?? *sigh* :(
After reading many of these comments I have to say it seems as though many of the comments were made by moviex staff in an attempt to defend their reputation.
PG2 automatically blocked moviex, and I intend to keep it blocked. :)
In 2007 I created nearly 40 ORIGINAL torrents for movies I uploaded exclusively to private trackers. My “ratio” at such sites is a ridiculous figure; it approaches 2700:1 at two of them, and my total uploads for the past year exceeded 15Tb.
I’ve seen a couple dozen of my creations make their way to public trackers, which doesn’t bother me in the least.
But moviex.info offends me greatly. If they are so dead-set against leechers, and insist on enforcing ratio-based rules, then be a PRIVATE tracker - and that means in both directions. If you act as a public tracker, then you must allow reality to intrude: the very nature of BT allows people to be who and what they are, and many of them take but do not give.
So what? Live in the real world. I do not expect the vast majority of people who use P2P to be creators, nor do I expect everyone to give as much as they get. That is the primary reason I do what I do, and there is no way I will deal with folks who limit my occasional DL simply because my “ratio” with them doesn’t meet their lofty (and misguided) goals.
If moviex & loder vanished tomorrow, then I would simply do my best to increase my own output - and there are many others willing to do the same.
Please stop trying to justify your policies by inflating your importance to the P2P community at large; you are simply a “blip” on the radar screen of sharing.
I have no interest whatsoever in whether or not you earn a profit from your endeavors. If you can do so in a moral and ethical fashion, more power to you.
But trying to control the morality of others via ratios or any other method is a fools game at best, and at worst demonstrates how little you know about humanity as a whole.
P2P is all about choice. Everyone decides if they will give, or take, or do both. Moviex makes that decision as well, and has a right to do so. But they do NOT have the right to make that decision for others, especially if their “rules” enforce giving without the chance to receive.
I will keep giving no matter what Moviex decides; and I will continue to -exclusively- use private trackers that do NOT enforce ratios.
That is who and what I am.
Who and what are you?
[quote comment="228663"]This money:
ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN THEIR 0.8 RATIO LIMIT DUE TO ALL
THE SEEDS COMING FROM THE PIRATEBAY. PAY THEM OR GET BANNED

i currently have downloaded 1 file from them (1,63GB) and shared that file over 30 times (54.17GB) and its still uploading like crazy…
so the seeding isn’t really a problem. people like you, aka hit and runners, screw everything up

uhhh PG2 also blocks the entire EA sites… crappy bullshit program, MPAA/Riaa use Leased consumer lines for investigations… (IP adresses are unkown to outside world)
Screw all privates site who piss and moan full-time about seeds and ratios.
They’re just a bunch of middlemen getting in the way, when DHT is Da King.

DHT is nice, but still crappy speeds, Private sites own.
hi there! is there another tracker such moviex, a ip-list somewhere?
thx
i get good speeds from public trackers, why shud i use a private tracker where i have to seed to get ratio 1:1 where there is usually no peers to seed too because they limit the members. so wats the point, i can seed only when there is people to seed too.
Don’t think it matters, movieX site is blank. They might have got taken down. They are a bunch of Dumb asses and the staff is even worse.
I strongly disagree with your Position on Moviex. If it weren’t for all the ‘leechy jerks’ there would be no need for a place like Moviex in the first place. I can’t tell you all the times I seed to multiple ‘leechy jerks’ who never return the favor after their torrent completes so I can stop seeding with out cutting everyone off. Over and over people just cut and run after completing their torrent. Moviex has a refreshing policy of requiring a 1.1 to1 ratio and they will automatically ban you for anything less than 70%. I wish it was 110% to make up for the 10% who actually pay to keep the site going (MovieX has no adds and annoying Pop-ups) and therefore don’t have a mandatory ratio. I joined Moviex today After being impressed buy the rules. Realized Moviex was blocked and researched the issue. Moviex posted some very compelling rebuttals Like all the Torrents with the Double trackers do allow non-members to leech (The tracker belonging to MovieX allow non-members to leech but only up to a certain point at witch time they can still seed to moviex. After all they did leech from Moviex. Only fair! And they can continue to leech off the other tracker. If the other tracker is now dead due to all the ‘leechy jerks’ on public trackers Moviex should not be to blame. But it is exactly why more decent P2P’ers will join communities like Moviex and all the ‘leechy jerks’ are complaining. If all P2P’ers were considerate there would be no complaints, Probubly no MovieX and plenty of live torrents for everyone.
MovieX is the best site around,The only ppl complainig here are the LEECHERS those who likes to download movies and DON’T let others download from them.
DIE LEECHERS !!!
Is the site down?
I meant complaining…
Couldn’t agree with you more Ghost. All the people crying here are just a bunch of one way juveniles Pissed off that on MovieX they might have to give a little back to receive!
DIE LEECHERS !!!
Oh Yea, I meant complaining to and no the site isn’t down. It’s up and going strong!
Long Live MovieX!!!!
