Let's look at this argument from a different angle, regarding copying information and whether or not that should constitute theft and stealing or if it should be in another category.

Pizza is cool. Everyone loves Pizza. I would be willing to bet that it would be beneficial for you local pizza joint to have an exclusive right to make Pizza as a means to encourage them to create more pizza, to grow their business and to provide jobs. It would give them better economic incentive since they would be able to grow their business as everyone would not be able to make pizza in their own home without violating the pizza monopoly law.

Anybody who does make pizza in their own home should be called "Pirates", as they are just as evil as people who steal ships and murder people on the Caribbean.

To abolish this law, or to infringe on the pizza joints "rights" instated by the law would cause a loss of jobs, and would mean they would make significantly less money now.

So the real question we must ask now is, would this a.) Be beneficial to society to have a Pizza Monopoly law and b.) Would you call people who make their own pizza in their own homes, thieves?

In my opinion, no to either of those. Just because it would give economic benefit for the pizza joint owners, even if they did make a "novel, unique pizza with their own toppings" would be too intrusive on the rights of every day citizens.

Much like copying and sharing songs and other information is a natural human instinct, people since the dawn of time have been singing songs and sharing songs with any means possible for them to do so, if someone knows how to make good tasting pizza they're going to it.

To force them through draconian regulations like prison sentences and large fines is just simply too much. It is dehumanizing, and goes against human instinct. What's more, it is impossible to impose such regulations without spying and malicious technologies, much the same as DRM spies on users computers and imposes technologies to take control of your computer (like the Sony Rootkit), you would need to make ovens to detect pizza like objects, not bake it, and possible even report it to the authorities all without the permission of the owner of the oven.

If people can make Pizza, they're going to make Pizza, and if people can copy songs, they're going to copy songs. The best we can to prevent people from doing this is, spying, enforcement, and propaganda.

So do we say people who do bake pizza in their own homes thieves? Of course not, they were not customers to begin with! Now, if they went to the local pizza joint and stole pizza from there, then they would be thieves. But in this case, they made their own pizza, perhaps one that tastes and looks just like the pizza at the local pizza joint, they still are not thieves.
