MPAA: Internet Blackout is a PR Stunt, Users Are Corporate Pawns

mpaaIt’s official. The MPAA went off the deep end.

MPAA CEO Chris Dodd just called out Wikipedia, Reddit and all the other sites that plan to go dark tomorrow for misleading, abusing and punishing their users.

Or should we say “corporate pawns.”

The MPAA would of course never put their business before the movie goers.

Here’s the kettle calling… Full statement below (emphasis added.)

—-

“Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging.”

“It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.”

“A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals. It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy.”

Awww, don’t be like that. The MPAA are just having some fun with words and want us to do the same, so lets try.

      ———————————————————————-
Only days after the bought, plus paid for White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some dinosaur business interests like the MPAA, with pots of money are resorting to stunts that call in all their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem called SOPA that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging.

It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for casual entertainment and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these entertainment companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as casual entertainment, and who own news companies intentionally skew the facts to incite their unsuspecting and mostly dumb users in order to further their corporate interests.

A so-called “blackout” is yet another extremely frightening gimmick to the MPAA, albeit a dangerous one, designed educate people when they would rather keep them in the dark and as well as to punish the elected and administration officials who the MPAA purchased at a fair price and who are working diligently to protect fairytale and imagined “American jobs” from “foreign criminals”.

It is our hope that the White House and the Congress, the politicians who the MPAA paid for and their friends, will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the truth, and label it as hyperbole and PR stunts as the MPAA are the only ones who should be allowed to spew hyperbole as well as have PR stunts and engage in deceitful acts under the banner of “meaningful efforts” to combat leprechauns, unicorns, bogeymen, witches and magical piracy.

        MPAA TURNS NEW LEAF

In light of extensively- and authoritatively documented cases of MPAA disinformation and -abuses of power, CEO Chris Dodd today indicated a surprise reversal of the organization’s dependence on FUD and intimidation, disavowing “hyperbole and PR stunts” designed to “punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns” while they “intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests”.

While Dodd’s accusations of poor corporate citizenship were aimed at an unnamed entity, his comments are widely-known to have been a response to the actions of Wikipedia, a non-profit organization comprised entirely of its users.

the mob is the movie industry.

the made – men of congress are on their payroll.

sadly for the congressional greaseball club, they have zero permission to interfere with the internet in any way whatsoever – trust me !

the internet is a complex of privately own electronic equipment , processing free communication, free speech , and freedom of the press.

we have reach the time where the militia and the military must forcibly take control of the crime inc federal managerie and arrest and hold for trial the lot of them and put an enabled emergency leader in command.

these foul scum must be crushed, and the genocide of our superior white race nation stopped dead in its tracks.

no, we don’t all agree on that.

Who really believes that the MPAA speaks on behalf of anyone but its own dinosaurish and outdated corporate industry? Every time the MPAA and RIAA open their mouths its like a brontosaurus trying not to gulp in the last bit of tar and primordial ooze its slowly sinking into.

  • http://fightcopyrighttrolls.com S.J. Doe

It’s good news. We definitely hurt their nerve. Though it may look like a war dance, MPAA’s memo is actually a sign of weakness. They are scared.

Yep. right on. Every time they look stupid it’s another notch in the win column for everyone else. Again, why is this the top priority for the US right now?

    • Sdsdgz

And then they say that what those websites do is unfair because they are the only ones that have copyright on such tactics.

  • Dan

  • Rob

Fuck facepalm this is facenuke. MPAA are stupid, don’t they understand what the websites that are going dark are trying to prove? If say youtube went dark for the 24hrs it would simulate what it would be like if sopa came into effect, thus showing its users why sopa is a crock of shit.

  • TelezarZ

They just know they’re fucked ! But it’s too late now…

Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some entertainment business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns , rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging.
It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for creativity and use their services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to art and creativity intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.
A so-called “black list bill” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals. It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage these “black list bills” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat control of all information by the entertainment industry.

Beyond that little stunt I just performed:
The MPAA uses words such as corporate pawns and corporate interests for the purposes of emotional appeal. They are the ones skewing things up. They are scared, whoever said that above is right. The MPAA is very scared now, and I hope they stay that way.
These websites certainly have the right to strike. This statement by the MPAA is completely ridiculous. This is insanity.

Thanks to the MPAA. Without them looking after our interests the internet would be a mean and horrible place. It’s great that they are working tirelessly to protect the interests of us who are all too stupid to think for ourselves.

A few years ago there was someone at a local market selling pirated dvd’s i tried to do the right thing and told a police, officer at local bike night (not interested, didn’t even suggest going to make a report at police station) tried local cinema, was asked if it was someone filming, as the answer was NO not interested, they suggested trading standards, so tried their website, but found they wanted too much information (boxes you HAD to fill in) it is hard to give an address for a monday market site, which any local would know where I meant,

As a result why bother doing the right thing.

I just followed the money and found out the truth for myself.
Please think a bit more your next letter cause this one does not make any sense.

I own the copyright to the following acts and I may consider selling them to you. Please take a look. I know you ll like them.

    “The Mandatory Mandarin Act,”
    “The Great American Firewall Act,”
“The Prohibition of Digital Media Copy Equipment Act” ~ “The Prohibition of CD & DVD Burners Act,”
“The outlaw of Free speach Act,”
    “The Internet Destruction Act,”
