"The MPAA is not paid by studios, the MPAA is made up of studios. Why would they be paying themselves or refusing to pay themselves?"

You are basically wrong. The MPAA is a group made up of several studios, that's true, but they're a separate and independent group who employs their own people who are not employees of the studios. The studios pay what are essentially membership fees, which are used to cover the expenses of the association.

"It gives them the power of a monopoly with none of the risk that comes with being a monopoly"

The only thing that the MPAA has a monopoly on is distributing film ratings. And, even in that, there are other organizations (usually religious groups) do the same thing, it is just unofficial.

you know, anybody who really knows anything about about mexico knows that there is NO investigation. the mexican government wouldn 't help america catch someone in thier country. thats the whole reason people flee to america when they commit crimes.

do you know what they do to people who get caught crossing then border? they spend a night in jail and get released the next morning fresh and rested for thier next attempt.

Dog the freakin bounty hunter was aressted and sent to a mexican jail for trying to arrest a criminal who fled into mexico

Even if there is an investigation, its nothing more than a pipe dream. they just say they are doing so that it looks like they are taking action, since they know its a fools errand to actually try.

i'd even wager that there are plenty of mexicans that downloaded from demonoid.

and why call it piracy anyway? pirates are quite literally sea faring gangs that murder and pillage. that hasn't changed for hundreds of years. my guess is they call it piracy because it sounds more menacing than copyright infringement.

To be fair, the article is rather lacking in facts. It states there's an investigation into the "site's alleged owners" taking place in Mexico. It states that nobody is talking about the shut down. It states that all that turned up were some screenshots from the MPAA highlighting a couple of petitions Demonoid supported. It states that the purpose of those screenshots is unknown.

The only hard fact connected directly to the shutdown is the investigation in Mexico. (A google search for Demonoid Shutdown or the like is not a solid connection - I'm reasonably certain there's porn somewhere in the image results.)

So it _is_ a bit of a leap to go from "Demonoid shutdown during Mexico investigations" to "investigations into Demonoid instigated by MPAA analysis of Demonoid's political manoeuvrings." The article doesn't state that, but the speculation at the end is clearly intended to lead readers in that direction.

Demonoid's torrent download links usually only provided the link for their tracker server, as I recall. If a torrent has only one tracker, and the corresponding server is down, the torrent won't work. As far as I know, there's no way to stop a person from giving a torrent new trackers.

Trackers and sites are two different things, though Demonoid is unusual in actually exploiting that difference. Their tracker is public, meaning anyone with a torrent file or magnet link to the tracker could download. Their site is private, meaning you must have an account and be logged in to download the torrent files. So you're both kinda right. Anyone's right about one-tracker torrents not working because the tracker is dead, and Zidkcgtt is right about Demoinoid having a public tracker and the uploaders being at fault for torrents having only one tracker.

Over the years i seen them come and go, thoughts arise that even the people taking these small things out of our hands is just a massive control play... we need to take the power back in the peoples hands and not in the hands of some small minded bureaucratic asses that don't know their asses from their elbows. we are the voice and unless some of us are willing to step out and stick our heads on the line we will always be the under dogs.. we should take action against all governments that are cramming the conformity and socialism down our thoughts and expecting use to take it like a well trained dog. They can pressure us and smack us around and we have taken it for years.. petitions are not going to get us to the end we need to be at, we must just take our freedoms back and smack the government around they are the minority. we should not fear the government they should fear us and not take lightly the actions of a few pissed off pirates ( pirates life for me) arrhh
