ContentID is a machine. Machines are stupid.
It is very easy to monetize public domain and/or all types of recordings.
Digital content providers send to YouTube (Google) a low quality mp3 of their choice, it can be a song, a speech, anything.
YouTube is creating a fingerprint based on that audio file and stores it in their “ContentID” databases.
When there is a match between this fingerprint and an existing or new audio material on YouTube, a claim is sent and the video is monetized (= ads are placed before and/or on the video).

Ah.

You mean it’s the very definition of actually managing to “steal copyright”.

I keep saying copyright law is so insane by now the only winner in using it is the sleaziest crook with the biggest, most morally bankrupt team of lawyers.
