Nasa is using BitTorrent for their “visible earth”project

Written by Ernesto on January 27, 2006

Nasa is using BitTorrent for a while now. Recently however, they started a new project called “visible earth”. This massive image library offers several high quality pictures, and NASA is using BitTorrent to distribute these images.
So if you ever wanted to download a 2.9GB pic, here’s your chance.

I’ve downloaded all but 2 pieces of this (512kb) using Azureus. These ones are failing over and over again (#2494 and #2968). If anyone knows whether the problem is on my end or relates to the torrent itself, please leave a comment.

Are ALL of those files the same picture (the earth) but with different qualities? Or do they depict something else?

Why can’t I open the images with the HTTP feed? I click on the link, and then it directs me to the page where the image should be shown, but then it stops loading, and the image never appears. By the way are ALL of those files the same picture (the earth), but with different qualities? Or do they depict something else?
