Hello, Guest(pure)! You are right that advertising torrent use, and indeed even torrent use itself, is not illegal, only its use in illegal activities. That was never the point I made! The point of the ISP torrent advertising, is that it show both that torrents are a significant part of the ISP’s revenues and that the ISPs are aware of it use by consumers. While even I mentioned that torrent use is not an illegal activity per se, it is a sad and undeniable fact that a great deal, if not the majority of torrent use is with the intention of illegally distributing copyrighted content! Just like financial institutions are required by law in most jurisdictions to enact several safeguards against money laundering, and can be held accountable if they fail to enact such countermeasures, so too must ISPs be held accountable for their failure to enact proper countermeasure against cyber-crimes. ;)

Yes, yes, the ISP’s are profiting from providing bandwidth the same way the post office “prospers” from delivering drugs. The same way Ford prospers for providing “getaway vehicles”. And so on.

And there is no bonus to increased surveillance of web traffic since all that happens IF the ISP’s were to start going down the road of insanity is that people will start using VPN providers and ad-hoc networks such as VPNGate.

Anyone with “good” net-intentions realizes from the get-go that it’s a BAD IDEA to have universal censorship powers placed into the hands of any 3rd party.

Honestly…can’t decide whether trolling or just ironic but at least no one is dumb enough to actually believe such drivel as you just wrote…
