fri 9/9/11 im in great distress this morning as i am now blocked from newzbin where ive been a member since the begining of time
i am thinking of sending BT a bill for the outstanding days of my membership.

Just humor me and lets asume for arguments sake that the following things are true:
BT does not implement a block of Newzbin2
Most shares of BT are owned by the state
Court will fine BT for every day there is no block of the site.

After a while this will mean that failing to block the site will cause BT to get a huge fine, that will get more huge every day and soon will be so huge that the stockvalue of BT shares become nihil and therefore getting GB goverment losing a substantial amount of money, that much they might need help from the IMF to survive hehe.

So the rest of the world, including the US taxpayers will eventually pay for this disasterous court decision. Oh and yeah, BT will cease to exist and suddenly several million users are cut off from the internet. All potential customers for the one that buys BT for a symbolic ammount of 1 pound. Same time change the name and therefore no valid court ruling anymore??

The Government and the Courts are separate in that aspect; the site-blocking proposal has nothing to do with this court decision.

Ed Vaizey didn’t say there wouldn’t be site blocking (at least, publicly; your letter may say differently). He said that the government wouldn’t be implementing s17 of the DEA and us *that* for site-blocking… because that would likely be illegal and the government would get in trouble. Instead they’re going to stick with the existing law (s97A, CDPA) which was used in this case, and maybe beat ISPs into setting up a “voluntary” system for web-blocking.

Also, in the UK, politicians are allowed to lie about their policies…
