What this person doesn’t realize is that the pirated version of Microsoft Office he is running is probably reverse engineered by people from the scene. Without the scene, there wouldn’t be any pirated programs. I agree that it’s pretty useless to race each other for movies, same goes for programs. However, reverse engineering is, unless what most of you realize, a lot of work. You need to know what you are doing, or you’ll never crack it. So, at least some kudos to sceners.

Pre releases are mostly from the scene, but most stuff on P2P is not from the scene. A P2Per can record a TV show just as well as a scener – possibly even better, because they don’t have to worry about being first.

Since there are no statistics about this I would assume that there are at most a couple thousand members of “the scene” at any time. Enthusiasts that have the time, money and dedication to run something like that. Everyone else is excluded. It took me months to gain enough trust to do little stuff for them so you can’t tell me there are millions of sceners doing this every day.

And since it’s harder to get into the depths of the scene than into a lesbian bar wearing a shirt “Fuck You Bitch” the scene is pretty much a pre-release group with allures. They do some nice work alright but if you do work that other people can’t benefit from that’s basically useless. I don’t care if a couple dozen people can get stuff from their private servers pretty quickly if P2P does the same thing for much more people. I still prefer P2P and eventually all the releases come from the scene and end up on P2P so what’s the big deal?

Groups don’t benefit in any way by doing what they do, it’s just a big game really – a contest to get the most releases, the fastest releases, the best sites and a reputation amongst their peers. A labour of love. P2P isn’t really any concern, it’s just an easy way for the less technically inclined to land the material they want.

In a way it’s a shame that P2P grew to the point it’s at today where every idiot can download whatever they want, it’s certainly attracted the attention of authorities but then the scene has been successful in dodging that attention since the 80s. Nobody can stop scene releases from appearing on trackers nor would any group care to – it’s impossible, releases are always going to filter down to the Average Joe and end up there so while a group might express a distaste for the average P2Per they’re not going to attack a tracker hosting one of their releases because it’s likely to be on a thousand other trackers at the same time with no centralised point of distribution.

MOSSADi, whoever they are, are likely just some kids trying to add a couple of inches to their e-penis, like most website hacking groups. Who cares if they release details of a trackers users? that’s freely available information and in no way incriminates anybody, they’re just trying to scare noobs who worry that HAXORS HAVE MY IP ADDRES.

I never even met someone “scenic”, most folks I met in the reveng craft were laid back solo types with alot of patience and a desire to avoid attention.

Correction, some releases come from the scene, certainly not most. Most content on bittorrent is user generated, not scene generated. If the scene was to vanish up its own arse tomorrow, it would’t change a damn thing. People would still upload their cd’s, which they do a better job of than the scene who are stuck at 192khz with mp3 and cant tag tracks for shit. People would still upload their dvd movies and probably do a damn site better job of that too becuase they are in no rush to compete and will get it right the first time around. People will still rip and crack games, not all cracks originate from within the scene, there are plenty of talented individuals around who are just as capable without all the drama. So whats left? crappy cams. Who gives a damn about those.

There are some scene groups I respect, but MORRADI definitely won’t be one of them. I’ve never heard of them at all, never even seen the name, and none of the release sites have any info on them.

Like any good community, Norbits closes one day, another tracker will open five minutes later, maybe under a different name, maybe the same name.

Either way, MORRADI can go hump a dead moose.

@41- You said what I was about to say, all of these punks on bit torrent need to realize that these pre’s they get are ALL pretty much from the scene! If p2p and file sharing gets deemed illegal I will laugh at these punks who no longer have no idea how to get any more releases/media.

I’ve seen terrible scene releases and terrible P2P releases. Many sceners just want to be first, nothing else matters, certainly not quality.

And yet they still manage to release some rips that are out of sync, don’t play properly on stand-alone players, or have other problems. Yesterday I downloaded Done’s copy of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I discovered that the subs were way out of synx with the dialog. Not a big deal as I don’t need the subs, but you’d think someone would have bothered to check that before they uploaded it.
