OiNK.me.uk is Dead, Long Live OiNK.cd

Written by Ernesto on July 03, 2007

OiNK.me.uk is no more, the end of a legendary domain name was announced today. Due to “legal” issues with their domain registrar the popular private BitTorrent tracker decided to give up their domain name and move to OiNK.cd.

oink.cd oink oink.me.ukThe DNS issues caused trouble for thousands of users over the past few days. Accessing OiNK was only possible by manually hacking into the hosts file.

Unfortunately the legal issues with the domain registrar (Nominet) seemed to be unsolvable. The dispute was caused by the British law firm Addleshaw Goddard. On behalf of ebook writer Darren Shan they demanded that Nominet took action against OiNK.

“Kind of stupid really, since his crappy ebooks had about 10 snatches total, and this is predominantly a music site”, OiNK said in a response, and they saw no other solution than to switch to a new domain. The domain change was announced on the OiNK website earlier today:

“Because of the recent DNS issues, and the undesirable solution to fix them, we are changing the site’s name from OiNK.me.uk to OiNK.cd. The OiNK.me.uk domain will soon cease to function, and a full changeover will happen shortly.”

The OiNK team also advises its users to re-download all .torrent files. “Torrents downloaded from now on will contain 2 tracker addresses, the new OiNK.cd domain, and the tracker’s IP address, which should make any future DNS issues less serious”, they say.

Members who don’t want to re-download all .torrent files can also use the hosts file workaround, which might be an easier option for people who have 100+ torrents loaded into their BitTorrent client.

Or just typing the actual IP address into your browser address bar….

I heard first time about OiNk from this blog. I joined their irc-chatroom and have been banned just for asking where to find the “invitation-room”. What the fuck? Why they are such arrogant?
But I’m still wanting an invite. Does anybody know how to get one?

First off there is no Invite room. and secondly woulddnt you find it annoying someone coming into a chat for a site and begging for invites or a Invite channel? also “Why they are such arrogant?” isnt a correct sentence, Good Day Sir!

Is it actually possible to get an oink invitation without being really ’scene’ or posting hundreds of posts in the right forums?

What about us lurkers that sit back, download and seed till we have nice healthy ratios?

That’s because they don’t give out the invitations, and I am pretty sure there is some rule some where to warn that and that many many many people are just like you ask for invites on their irc…

Invites are easy if you are polite and friendly either in other trackers or forums.
There is no invite channel as people would beg and flame and it was simply annoying. To come cry for an invite is not proper form as Max has learned.
I am a quiet user who got the invite from a different forum’s friend and have quietly enjoyed the amazing site which is Oink.

What does .cd stand for? You know like country ones like .uk and .de…
Does .cd stand for something like that as well?

A Oink account isn’t really worth the hassle. Everything there you can find elsewhere (usenet/mininova) and you don’t have to suffer the arrogant Nazi admins in the process.

One of the admin actually says:
“anyone responding to a PM from me who tells me to calm down or chill out … will now immediately lose their accounts… As I don’t get paid for this, I’m going to satisfy myself by getting rid of anyone who annoys me sufficiently.”

yeah listen to that guy, just move on to mininova

A lesson to anyone else tempted to register a domain with me.uk. Too bad about Oink. I never knew thee, but as others suggest there are alternatives and invites seem hard anyway.

> “Why they are such arrogant?” isnt a correct sentence, Good Day Sir!

That’s a pretty arrogant statement in itself: This guy probably learned English as a second language. Cut him some slack, or learn his.

Oink sucks anyway. Like people have said you can get music faster elsewhere and not even worry about a ratio thats hard as fuck to keep up on such a small site.
I get better stuff from emule.

Thing is though, OiNK never intended to be a huge torrent site the likes of demonoid, mininova, etc. That’s why it had to go invite only. It’s not a large scale operation. The admins have to do/deal with a lot of bullshit unpaid, all donations go to upgrading the servers, overhead whatever, and, as welcoming as the site can be to people who use it properly, it’s not possible to let everyone on the internet who can install bittorrent to have an account. If you don’t like OiNK, go somewhere else but don’t bash it. It’s a nice community, so find a friend with some invites, and use it well.

i miss demonod. it the best pseudo-private torrent site around and good community too…

16 Jul 04, 2007 at 05:56 by punkrawkgeek

demonoid is still about tho, just not up. it will be back! :D
i hope.
as for OiNK, i’ve been a member there for a good couple years - goin` on 3years. i’ve only had good times there. i have found some other music sites to not be as well set up and such. and really, the ratio is easy to keep up, if you try.

anybody flaming oinks is a most likely a moron who has been banned for cheating there.

1)yes, it is the single greatest music torrent site. around 210,000 current active torrents, in both the mp3 and lossless flac formats

2) with over 150,000 members, it is not only for “sceners”, in fact far from that, it’s a place for regular people who jsut love music.

3) maintaining an adequate share ratio there is easy, if you are willing to seed and be patient enough to not DL dozens of albums in your first week. If you decide to upload a torrent or two yourself, you’re almost guaranteed to get at least 2-3 completed downloaders, no matter how obscure the title.

I give them lots of credit for a very well-run torrent site, one of the best run and best-operating sites out there, and I’ve been at most of them.

Blindly listen to the haters, or get yourself an invite by just being a good member on a few other private sites (that’s the best way to get invites to ANY private torrent site) and join oink and decide for yourself.

It’s such a great site that some asshat was even getting $40 each for Oink invitations on ebay, until oinks tracked down the kid’s real name, address, home phone, dad’s phone, dad’s work address & phone, the kid’s own myspace, etc and then posted all the info publicly and scared him into quitting his ebay business.

Kamikaze, I think you need to go get some fresh air.

We get the point, OiNK is your first love, there’s no need to go on so much.

19 Jul 04, 2007 at 12:11 by Jack B

Oink sucks. They are too strict with the rules and it’s impossible to get a good ratio if you don’t have a cd collection or access to the newest releases… because everything is already on there!

If only you could buy upload credit it would be much better.

Can anyone invite me? I know it’s not polite, and no .. I can’t trade with another private tracker account. BUT, I do have 240 GB of music to share (and I will).

You can mail me at sepperoxxx@hotmail.com, I will appreciate it a LOT!

Demonoid’s back up. Slyck.com reported that today!

23 Jul 24, 2007 at 06:44 by AssHat

Fuck Oink. Oink can suck my dick. Bunch of assholes. You can find music faster elsewhere and without all the bullshit from the stupid PinkPigCunts at Oink.
