I got my silverlight issues fixed and attempted to access NBC official olympic stream. They have a block that prevents me from accessing the stream unless i sign in with my cable tv provider account.
WTF is the point of an online stream if it is not an alternative to other broadcast media. Why must I have a cable tv online account to watch the olympics online? Bucause these Guy's are a bunch of greedy f*ckholes, that's why. They don't get a cut of my ISP fees so f*ck me.
I'll be trying the ctv stream next, any advice for good 'pirate'olympic streams if that site screws me too?

You know not all of us have DVRs at home to tape the hours upon hours of events. They make it nearly impossible to see the events that we miss if we can't sit at home for endless hours to watch events. What the hell else are we susposed to do? I saw the opening and everything but missed alot of other stuff. If the stupid Olympic commity would get out of the 6th century and post digital media on the internet then I would pay to see it. As it stands I'll just have to pirate it ARG!

btw, I do indeed want to watch 3 hours of curling on a 13 inch screen! I wanted it, and got it, 6 years ago before HD TV's were wide spread, and I wan't It today. That statement alone manages to demonstrate NBC's pathetic misunderstanding of the market's desire for olympic broadcast content, and stands as the perfect example of why they should be supplanted as america's 'exlusive' olympic broadcaster.

Fuck NBC, Fuck CTV, Fuck Microsoft, And FUUUUCK Silverlihgt!

I am running firefox 3.5.7 and Moonlight 2.99 plugin on a 64 bit linux system, and all the 'official' streams of the olympics will not work for me because of silverlight/firefox issues.

Also, I waited up late w/ my sister to see the NBC Ski Jumping re-broadcast and they ended up showing like 5 Jumps! I'm sorry, but a 105.5 ft jump is less impressive when you dont see 50 other world class athletes barely breaking 100 ft in the hour preceding it. NBC has reduced their event coverage year after year and filled the mean time with 'human interest' BS. Then they say they want to crack down on altenative broadcast methods. FUCK 'EM!

It would seriously have made sense for them to have used some sort of podcasting service for the Olympic events.

However, they have different exclusive broadcasters in different countries, and it's kind of hard to escape such legalities. Maybe they can iron it out in two years.

Of course this could be handled with either geoip detection at the central web page, or simply having the person click on what nation they are from.

I just hope if they do this, they don't stick some stupid DRM on it that makes it difficult for non Microsoft users to view without really preventing piracy (such as Microsoft Silverlight or Encrypted mp4.) Seriously, you don't lock the store's door to prevent shoplifters!
