watta load of sh*t - we're price gouged far more than other developed countries for many products, digital especially (games for example, new release of gta 4 was $120) all because they know they can get away screwing over the island on the other side of the world. not to mention the relatively ridiculous time delay in content being released here.

Gen Y here want the content as soon as its released, if it was possible to watch it legally at the same time as those in the states do, it wouldnt be anywhere near a problem.

Lastly are u kidding us with that 'pornographic images' crap? there's a fraction of a fraction of teens in the developed world that havent seen anything porn related by the age of 15. Only thing i support in this article is the gambling advertising being harmful o.O

All in all it just shows this is another sham report by the MPAA to deflect from their shoddy, price gouging and ultimately piracy-encouraging practices o.O

Lol, yeah, they advertize gambling and sex because no other industries will advertize with them, and advertizing is the only way many of them make any money. You can't deny people any good choices, drive them into the dark, and then complain because they're not all sunshine and light.

these so called "Facts" are complete bullshit i have tried many times to find an episode or movie on itunes or tried signing up for netflix and you have to jump through hoops or get shut out of a lot of stuff itunes has seperate stores for different countries so you cant get the latest stuff from there like the US and to use netflix you gotta pay for a VPN then you have to try and get a US credit card number then on top of that you pay a monthly fee so you end up spending like $20 a month just to watch a couple of shows

amazon is the same as well as hulu they make it difficult for people to access stuff then complain when they find a simple solution i have said many times before if things were available cheaper and easier i would have no issue with paying for it

I remember years ago saying if they just halved their cost for an album bought from a Store it would make people buy it $30 for a CD is ridiculous i can go down the road right now a buy a pack of 100 cd's for less than $20 and that is retail prices they would be getting the discs even cheaper cents on the dollar so i don't see why they need to charge that kind of money the profit is like 300% (not actual figure)

it comes down to the greed of the companies and their unwillingness to change and perhaps take smaller profit in the hopes of making more sales and getting more return customers and don't get me started on DRM it is causing a lot of these issues

I do buy things legally i purchase all my games i have for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 (i have all three) i also buy movies i really like on BLURAY and see a lot at the cinema's (perfect example of rip-off there paying $15 per person to see a movie once)

i also purchased Ipod to listen to the music so apple got me for that

They say we're being cheapskates well it doesn't help that everything is twice as expensive here in australia they say because of shipping well digital content could solve that issue but NO still gonna charge us for something that does not require physical transportation

The part that says, <b>"Teens are exposed to these ads as well and the group warns parents of the hazardous effects these banners can have on their children"</b> reminds me of the constant, daily adverts on the TV for the local casinos here in Colorado. One ad shows half naked women acting like they are in a Caligula movie. Then there are the ads for one-on-one "chat" lines which emphasize that you can talk about "anything you like."

Yeah, we must save the children! [sarcasm]

PSN AU has TV shows for $2.99 SD or $3.99 HD. $95.76 for a full 24ep HD season. No full season discounting.
That will deter the pirates for sure.

Given the choice between a system that you've used before, that you know works for all of your devices, is good quality, and doesn't have any crap with it (advertisements, drm, viruses, etc) and a system that likely fails on all of the other points, and also costs money (and privacy) to use; which one would you choose?

Even if the official pay-for version is perfectly as good as the unofficial free version, what incentive is there to change my habits that have worked perfectly well for over a decade?

Actually, it's still correct as the two laws are in a mild conflict. The consumer law still allows for legal time transfer and media transfer, while the laws put in place regarding DRM make it unlawful to REMOVE DRM from a recording. Thus it is technically legal to make a copy that includes the DRM; just a technological challenge to do so, but can be done.

Also, and more importantly, not everything comes with DRM embedded in it and thus not affected by the DRM related laws in any way.

Caveat - I've not tracked all IP law changes in the last several months.
