Outright THEFT

As is usually the case anything on the web usually gets the 'Did you know this is copyrighted, you have to take it down or go to court' sort of thing, and as for an official document it's not exactly 'above pre-school' intellect that's written this lol.

Personally i've never used those sites so have no idea the internal workings but :-

1. was it a user contribution site, if so isn't the contributor liable not the domain.
2. if it was a closed site surely they knew this would come at some point?
3. if that was letter was anything to go by they should have sued for libel and misrepresentation, only parts of the files were checked so what exactly was the rest? i'm sorry but seen clips like that and they had legit adverts in them lol

@48 They may not take down Google but they're already censoring wildly like suggested search is extremely censored and their is data blocks at country level.

Some of Google's censorship is because they seem to want to side with protectionist, outdated, progressophobe artists like @56.

seems like the US is heading straight towards their doomed fate as shown in Idiocracy, no point in learning science and electronics in america when your not allowed to learn new things cuz some1 owns the patent.

i don't understand why they are so against copying something, i wonder when (if) the time comes when we can copy material items, will it be illegal for a person to copy for instance a mcdonalds burger, or other food that is licensed, will they fight against that, i wonder if the judges then will side with the corporations or with the people, there's not much difference between the two, they both involve copying, making something finite infinite

@ 56, by Oligive:

...If you have something of value to contribute, why not link to your own works instead? You can make your own movies and share them.

If your business model and website is predicated on you aggregating and promoting pirate links, find a better business model.

Do you mean like YouTube? The company that got sued by Viacom, after Viacom uploaded dozens of it's own works precisely so they could sue them for it?

Or do you mean like the websites that have to deal every day with spurious demands for royalties and threats of legal action - for broadcasting music that has been generously and freely given to them by the original artists?

Or do you mean like Mininova, which has now gone 100% legal and is still being sued?

Or do you mean like the Free and Open Source Software community which has been branded an "enemy of free trade" by the anti-piracy lobby, because they don't charge money for their services?

The enemy of the anti-piracy brigade isn't piracy - it's anything and everything, legal or illegal which threatens the established business models currently favoured by the MAFIAA.

At this moment in time, the MAFIAA companies effectively have a substantial near-monopoly over the staff, the facilities, the technical resources and even the financial investment needed to make a competitive product.

Who has the nerve to offer work or facilities to a project like Pioneer One, when they know they're at risk of being blacklisted by all the biggest corporate players in the industry?

Who wants to risk investing or offering sponsorship to a project, when they know every network in the USA can - without any warning at all - permanently pull the plug on every last piece of advertising or sponsorship they normally depend on to drive their daily business?

The MAFIAA is run by stupid, panicking old men who are very frightened of change.

I look forward to the day when all the old men are dead or bankrupt.

To when our content-creation industries finally abandon the obsolescence of unit-sales and become open and properly competing service-providers instead - as they all inevitably must, sooner or later.

I look forward to a time when there's no more need for an anti-piracy lobby.

It will be good riddance to bad rubbish when they've gone.
