This is what incentivizes those who know of wrongdoing to come forward. Further, the Court has already made the statements from the whistleblower inadmissible which would mean the only reason his/her identity would be useful is for a retaliatory purpose

If no one knows the identity, then that’s even worse for the as it is then not a witness statement… It’s simply a claim, which is not submittable as evidence to begin with… Meaning basically it cant be used in court AT ALL… The instant UMG tries to submit the comment as evidence (which upon further reading, they havnt), then that will mean that a new subpoena for the identity can be obtained and will likely be granted since the only reason this one was denied in the end, is seemingly exactly that it had not been submitted as evidence…

Better hope that isn’t the end goal. VPNs are easily circumvented if someone really wants to. DNS is easily faked, SSL certificates can be easily obtained by corrupt certificate authorities (the NSA has thousands of wildcard SSL certs that they can fill in later), QUANTUM attacks render VPNs worthless, and overall any well positioned attack can man-in-the-middle a proxy or VPN with relative ease. Tor evades this to some extent, but ultimately relies on about ten directory servers that could be seized at any time and could have their RAM imaged to reveal private keys.

The Internet is fundamentally broken and can only be secured through decentralized and distributed data storage systems and owner free/least authorities file systems like Freenet or Tahoe-LAFS running on top of I2P. The end goal needs to be a reversal of current routing algorithms and technology, replacing TCP/IP and Layer3 tech with something akin to Dovetail. Either than or meshnetworking needs to take off.

Nobody knows who the user is at this point. DMN never handed over anything and claims not to have the details on the user any longer. Escape, the courts, DMN, no one currently knows who they were.

The NSA probably would know if they weren’t incompetent at doing anything other than targeted surveillance (which defeats the point of the mass collection).
