They are pulling the wool over your eyes people. If it aint broke dont fix it. These guys said the site would never go down and they lied. They just want a big one-time payout. Who can blame them really. It won't be better it will go away.

TPB's userbase Drop

07.01.2009 = 3.722.967 registered users.

07.02.2009 = 3.719.533 registered users.

3434 accounts removed for one day
143 accounts removed every hour

Providers of the most valuable and the most questionable content will leave first. All those who seek their goods will follow them. We don't know how many accounts are for inactive users.

Only 2000 have dropped out of Pirate Bay in last couple of days. Looks like nobody cares for right now.. I would have guessed more members expressing their dismay for the foreseeable future. Can anyone point to the Next Best Thing for now, I really want to move away from the Bay, BEFORE we hit the iceburg! Thanks!

This goes out too the founders of the pirate bay who value there back pockets and social well being instead of freedom of speech thats why my founding fathers in america spoke out along time ago. But now they did the same thing that most politicians did to america. They fucking sold us out cause of money. Just like every other politician in this world they would sell their country for a few millions if it wasn't for the people stopping them at some point. Like #3 said "Arrrhhh this pirate be setting sail for a new port matey". I would advise everybody else to do the same aswell the pirate bay is dead.

their site will be wothless within a year as it will be most likely shut down or just erodes. That foundation is a big bullcrap. So they are giving away the money but they don't know to whom coz the ownership is decentralised, too. LOL I bet it ends up in their pocket. Also, I find it hard to believe that they haven't made any money out of pirate bay so far...

To be honest, I'm not surprised to see this pan out like this. The corporate suits with the unlimited resources, lobbyist in every government in the world, paying off judicial systems to see it their way, you can only get hammered by the corporate bastards of the world before you have to give up and go some place to lick your wounds. Just tells me that corporations hold the true power in the world not our elected governments.

The owners of TPB sold out. They're trying to spin it as if they're doing a good thing but not... They sold out not only us but bit torrent technology as well as the cause.

I surely hope their appeals fail in court (Which I am sure they will) and that they lose all this sell out money to the MPAA.

I noticed on Wednesday, they changed the logo on the home page back to the original. I think they want to reduce their user base getting the message that it's time to bail.

My guess is that only about 10% of their users, realize not only what was announced, but the true implications of such. Not to mention what effect a mass exodus from the site might have.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the word out to millions of those registered users? (I deleted my account a few moments ago) Time to sail on, but would be nice to send them a message on a scale they would hear it.

Tried downloading a program one from mininova (TPB only tracker) and one straight from TPB. Only one will download at a time and its 5Lbs down speed vs my usual 600+.

Looks like caca hit the fan already. REMOVE TPB from trackers before starting download if possible!

@224:
Cite: "One of the keys to TPB’s success was the creators’ attitude, that’s not something easily replaced."

You hit the nail on the head. That's why I am surprised how many people are pouring scorn on TPB crew while no one of them is even thinking of finishing what supposedly TPB started. For me it looks like everyone blaming TPB thinks "freedom of ... is dead" etc. and no one wants to try to take the baton. It's like when someone breaks cage with poisonous spiders and everyone tells you "you mtfk bastrd, what have you done, now we are all dead" and no one is trying to kill the spiders.

Sell of Pirate bay really hurts. These guys were the the leaders of resistance, resistance against the stupid copyright laws. It seemed that they can't be brought down... but may be we all were wrong in thinking that.

That Ship, the one I have loved above all else that sail, will sink like a Lead Turd in the Proverbial Punchbowl. This is the worst decision every made on behalf of the bay, and financial ruin is the destiny of 'gameboy' if he thinks this community will stay on board while he tries to bring "Mafia Religion" to the table. Run Rats Run! I'm deleting my account as soon as the mechanism is in place, and I'm shopping for a new home starting TODAY!

i think i've worked all this out ready guys put on your tinfoil hats

------------------------------------

All of a sudden this new company springs up from nowhere with a site that looks like it's been put up within seconds hell even a more simple design than wordpress and thats saying something notice no contact email address only a phone number?

IF the company is legit here is whats going to happen mark my words on this

1. the Service they will allow you to download but only their content they've been paid to be allowed to share but the downloads will be DRM'd Thats right Digitial Restricted (we all been here before) so now your forced to adire to their licence this makes sense of his speech about letting content owners take back control of the content, yep DRM, the client to do the downloading is a closed source proprietary format which will also require DRM licencing restrictions now if you think you can download a movie and watch it with any media player you people are in for a massive shock it will be DRM locked to a proprietary play of their choosing.

Now you all keep talking about Videobay this is where you people have your heads firm in the sand

Peerlism the new p2p tech they are using is for STREAMING Videos' check it out for yourself

dont you see the piratebay guys are not doing videobay this global company is,

doesn't it all fit think about it licenced content taking back control allowing to transfer files

A company called wurldmedia did this exact same thing 2 years ago remember them? paid people to share files again that was the same type of business model that tanked due to the DRM.

The new Piratebay is the videobay using peerlism which is designed for streaming content, their website explains about taking the stress of 90% of isp's and low and behold so does this Global Gaming company.

you watch the new Subscription channel open with this new DRM sharing scheme and DRM video streaming scheme

You heard it here first guys.

If there are 20 million users of Pirate Bay then why don't they all contribute 50 cents to buy it and control it like a publicly held company. They can then register the company in Dubi or somewhere else the US and Sweden don't have the jurisdiction to control the company?

Make it legit, like it the God Father II.

@219
Yes because creating a website and tracker with the same bandwidth and quality as TPB can be done overnight…
Furthermore not all of TPB’s users are sure the sites as dead as you claim.

I suppose I could have a webpage with sufficient bandwidth to replace TPB up in a week or so. But why would I invest in it when it’s hardly needed.

Isohunt and other public sites does a great job and could easily absorb the userbase.
Until someone is inspired to create something superior to the existing alternatives, there’s no point in making a new site, a TPB carbon copy isn’t going to take off.

One of the keys to TPB’s success was the creators’ attitude, that’s not something easily replaced.

@221
FAIL; the pirate party is not in government it’s not even in the Swedish parliament.

this was a set up all along. it was never about the people. it was about proving how they could lead people like sheep so they could get seats for their friends in goverment

the sad part is now they will sell you out and the media companies can sue you for millions of dollars.

They do log ip addresses and personal info.

People failed to see TPB guys were puppets leading more puppets.

Well, I have had 24 hours to think about this and I still feel betrayed. Not by these guys giving up. Lord knows they must be tired of the fight. And not by their attempting to profit from their hard work by selling the site. Rather the fundamental betrayal is their disingenuous and transparently false claim that they are doing it for the benefit of the site and its users, to "take the site to a new level" with "new business models".

I suppose this lie was felt necessary to retain the current user base until the new owners can take over lest the deal fall through because GGF realizes they are buying a corpse. It is this abuse of the trust we have all placed in them which leaves me with nothing but contempt.

Well if Brokep is speaking the truth then there's no reason to be concerned.

From what I can gather he's basically saying that the new owners will use their considerable add experience to turn a profit, allowing them to invest in the site. But that being possible seems largely dependent on TPB winning the “spectrial”, or loose solely because of the tracker.

The only reason to doubt that it is the press release that suggested that copyright holders would get paid.
I doubt the site is ever going to reach an add income large enough for the RIAA/MPAA etc. to be content.
And if you can’t compensate the right holders fully there’s really no reason to try, you risk admitting that you’re assisting in copyright violations –which is suicide.
Well that and how the deal doesn’t seem to depend on TPB winning or losing.

I suppose I’ll have to wait for the transfer to go through in August before I make up my mind. That and this new third-party tracker that they claim to be setting up.
