If those who bought the piratebay had come up with this they might've actually been able to make it.

Nice and unique imo idea, though as mentioned above i'd like to only pay money when needed not per month or per week

well... idea is great. and studies suggest that people actually pay for content if they find it appealing and if given the chance to do so in a convenient manner.

but flattr? wtf is that supposed to mean? FLATulence TrackeR?

ok... i guess after having such a good idea you are pretty exhausted and then you wont be able to come up with a name that's distinguishable from all the other hypey-blinky-ajax3000-web25-social-sites.

whatever: good luck!

From what I have seen, there is some confusion on what content is shown / paid for etc.

From what I see, it's more of Digg but instead of a thumbs up, you are donating to that site because you like what they are doing. I doubt its for the content itself.

For example if I was trying to get some business as an musician that I would upload to a site 2 pieces of music for free and you download them... so if you liked it you could Flattr them or not... perhaps you would buy the CD instead of Flattr'ing them.

@ 35 & 53: If you needed someone to help you publish your work then you would pay someone for that. That's what Flattr is. Without 'the middle man' their audience would be limited. This is on the assumption that the flattr site would have some kind of directory. Would be silly if someone went straight to abc.biz site and flattr'ed someone.

It's a good idea on paper, but like someone else mentioned, what is to say we are going to the original creator's site, and not someone who grabbed the images/files from them and show it as their own?

I didn't watch the video, so I don't know this question, but is the payment to the 'creator' delayed x amount of days (which I think it should if not)?

RM, I love reading you're posts. You have absolutely no shame in trying to engineer people against one another-- and even less shame in trying it repeatedly n the same group. I could use someone like you working for me.

Peter Sunde is a convicted criminal begging for money. Lesson number!, never ever trust criminals.

Aside from that, Sunde could have donated the creators of content for all the time he was running the Pirate Bay, when he still made tons of money from it.

Now he's a convicted criminal with a debt of millions and NOW he wants US to pay for content.

You wont get a single dime from me, mister the convicted internet criminal....

I smell a scam. The people that made this could steal a lot of money and there would be no way to track it (unless there's a way to trace individual clicks, which would be problematic at best).

There's also the problem with the content versus user ratio. The more competition there is, the less money you're going to get. Only the most influential (aka wealthy) investors will make any real money from this system. Your silly little blog STILL isn't going to make you any money.

I've watched the flattr video and liked the idéa, but how can we be certain that the credit goes to the creator and not a con-man?

I have some more question:

* how come it's flatrate (monthly fee)?
* can't flattr.com users get some more benifit?

There are 6 billion people in the world, so 20 million users just might escalate exponentially.

Also, should you read this Mr S, then why not figure out a way of calculating how many times an item has been downloaded from all sites (that have been pre-registered with you in order to obtain the coveted "safe" sign), rather than "thumbs up" as a basis for payment distribution.

Shure, there will be some downloads that wont be worth the paper they were written on, but overall us pirates grivitate towards quality.

Also, this would incentivise the artist to have their content uploaded to as many blogs and torrent sites as possible.
