OK... I think I'm going to be taking an unpopular side here, but....

Why exactly is the pirate party protesting? From what I gathered from the article, the individual in question was caught, tried & convicted of a crime. Why are we upset that he is being punished?

And come on... 30 days in jail! HA! According to the FBI warning on all DVDs in the US, here, you can face 5 years in prison and a fine of 250,000! I think I'd be thankful to get just 30 days in jail, as apposed to 5 years in prison should I be in his shoes (assuming of course its more a country club jail & my cellmate isn't a 300+ pound man named Bubba who is in for murder and who is inviting me to sit on his bunk with him....)

Though what I'm really impressed with is the fact that they were able to convict him with in 24-hrs of his arrest! Unless he plead guilty, that is rather impressive! In the US you can wait months or even years until your trial starts & they usually take more than a day themselves....

"Peerguardian". It prevents false sharers (the ones with author rights)to know your IP address, and also preventing them from sending email to your provider"

No, it doesn't. It just gives you a false sense of security.

The 'false sharers' aren't stupid, and they certainly aren't short on resources. They use domestic ADSL/cable connections too, and IP ranges which are not on that list (think datacentres and other service providers, from whom they rent servers).

And, of course, they have access to the exact same lists as you do, so if their current ranges show up on them they can switch providers and get another set of addresses which aren't on the lists.

Sure, you might see a gazillion blocked connections in PG2, and of course you'll think "Great! It's working!" But you won't see the connections which do get through because they aren't on those lists.

And, naturally, the 'false sharers' will obviously use some blocked ranges, if only to help engender that false sense of security. It is, after all, in their interests to maintain that false sense.

PG2 and Peerblock? Pure snake oil.

I figured as much, but that survey doesn't say that "70% [...] does not now feel that p2p is wrong".

At the most it says that 20% (or was it 15%?) feel that "downloading is socially acceptable", with maybe a further 50% or so being "skeptical but ok with it".

Certainly a far cry from Wildfire's claim above.

I live in Serbia and I see that this is all because of pressure that EU and US make. Why don't they arrest street sellers then? Because street sellers are small fish and they can't be shown to Europe and states as some accomplishment.
@Jugoslavia
Don't embarrass Serbia with your nationalism and hate.
@no politic
What your comment makes you different from him. With your comment you look like nationalist and chauvinist that doesn't know to point even Balkan on map, not to say Serbia.
