US Pirate Party Endorses Barack Obama

Written by Ernesto on January 03, 2008

The US Pirate Party has no candidate for the upcoming elections, but who do the pirates vote for? Barack Obama, and the party strongly urges all its members to support his campaign, and vote for him in the primaries, and later this year in November.

US Pirate Party Endorses Barack ObamaThe Pirate Party just published a press release in which they show their support for Obama, and ask their members to support him as well. Obama is indeed the only candidate who’s even been willing to consider copyright change, the others are more interested in protecting the commercial rights of a few. Other than that, he has a healthy view on how to ensure people’s privacy and he values net neutrality.

Andrew Norton, a spokesperson of the US Pirate Party told TorrentFreak: “We believe in democracy, and progress. Since we are not putting forward a candidate of our own, we stand solidly behind Mr. Obama, as he is the only candidate that seems to realize that personal privacy is a right, not a privilege, and believes that copyright is, as the constitution defines, for progress, rather than profit.”

Mr. Obama clearly understands the important role that the Internet plays in delivering information and communications in general according to the US Pirate Party. A great example of this is the speech he gave at the at the Google campus where he said, “I will take a backseat to no one in my commitment to network neutrality.” He later told TechCrunch: “I will prevent network providers from discriminating in ways that limit the freedom of expression on the Internet.” So, no BitTorrent blocking if it was up to Obama, sorry Comcast.

Don’t want to trust on the Pirate Parties? You can do a votematch here if you’re tired of all the campaign commercials and want to base your decision on what the candidates actually stand for.

Note: all Ron Paul comments will be censored ;)

The last thing we in this FU country of ours is a Muslim portraying himself as a Christian to be running things. Did someone forget what happened 6 years ago? Get your heads out of your asses, there is only one clear choice, Fred Thompson. Right now we need someone that doesn’t screw around and Mr. Thompson is the clear choice. But if your an idiot you go right ahead and make that call.

What’s hilarious is the amount of people on the internet who blindly follow every word Ron Paul says and call everybody who happens to not like Ron Paul an idiot, stupid, etc.

Please continue, this is a good laugh! :D

Ron Paul would make it more safer for torrents to exist freely and without punishment.

I don’t believe the RIAA is good enough for the constitution.

not all democrats have the exact same beliefs as others
Not specifically, but almost all are pro-bigger government, government regulates more, etc. The more regulation the less piracy will happen. Is the government going to allow bitorrent if they are allowed to regulate it via the net companies?

Bitorrent is allowed because of a free market, and people will switch providers if an ISP blocks it.

In a democrat world, blocking bitorrent wouldn’t take very long. Nationwide.
The republican party isn’t even republican these days. The Bush administration is promoting “bigger government” far more than any previous democractic administration has.

Quite amazing but I think U.S. Pirate PArty have good reason to give support to the Obama. Maybe he will make some good things and really try open U.S. to the other world (when bush is bushing it inside to bush… from back side…)

What is wrong with Ron Paul? Seems like you’re blindly saying something negative without anything to back up your claim. Good Job.
Bill Clinton signed the DMCA. And if you wikipedia more recent laws, they are usually generated by democrats. I’ll admit, they have some republican support, but they were generated by democrats. Voting in Obama, a democrat, AKA a big gov lover is not right.

Republicans are for the free market, wouldn’t that be the obvious choice for pirating concerns and net neturality?
Just because they’re democrats doesn’t mean they think and are the same, there isn’t just two kinds of people.
Ron Paul supports net neutrality. He hates big government and big business, which are the one threatening privacy. Obama is questionable, he’s not a consistent voter.(Obama believes in the popular thing right now.) Ron Paul is a consistent voter. Ron Paul believes in leaving people alone and letting them do whatever they want with no government in the way. He wants to pull back our bases out of 120+ countries, which is good for US and the world. There is a reason a lot of people hate the US. We used to promote democracy, and now we’re an imperialist empire. It’s time to go back to how we used to be.
Did you know the real reason why Osama Bin Laden hates America amnd wants to attack it so bad, because Satan is controlling America now, when the CIA Trained Osama Bin Laden to fight those Russians (used Osama for selfishness) and after that we just left Iraq and never helped rebuild the country.

People need to understand Osama was just angry because Our Evil Empire country used him to stop Russia, we used Saddam too.

Our country keeps harassing and using people all around the world, no wonder why Americas the most hated country in the world.

We need Ron Paul, we need better leadership or else one day America could get nuked because whatever goes around comes around and if America keeps harassing people in other countries who DID NOTHING to Mr Bush, or his country, I bet one day every country and it’s peoples gonna hate us.

The hate keeps going everytime Bush Harasses innocent people, and hurts and kills people.

Stop using people that could become dangerous terrorists.

@TheOneX

Dude, try reading the post about how utterly screwed you guys are. Free elections you say? I’d say you have as much freedom as a rat in a cage.

That said though, Obama is probably your best hope for at least a little change. But don’t go and cry your heart out when he forgets his promises, his tied up to big business just like the others. A pawn in their game.

Congrats, you’ve been bamboozled!

Ron Paul is a real man, not a puppet like these other scum!

All these years of lying and deceiving by presidential candidates and presidents have made every potential do-gooder a lyer and deceiver too.
Jesus Christ, cynicism alley over here.

The censorship of comments concerning 1 particular candidate shows the disgusting bias here.Is typical tho of todays status quo of cronyism.
There is ONLY ONE candidate that is for the people and Obama is NOT the one.
Constitution > Government
Can we please get back to they way is should be?
It is time for rEVOLution!

In case you haven’t noticed, Republicans are trying to restrict user freedom on the Internet, and give full control of access to the big telecom companies. The Democrats believe (like republicans) that content/intellectual property owners must be protected and compensated for their use. But, only republicans are trying to restrict our freedom to access any server on the Internet. This is fact, not fiction, and no amount of talking-points and spin can conceal this truth.

The kind of change and unity that Obama is offering is not the kind that this country needs. Everything comes with a price to it, look at his proposed methodology, look at his voting record and look at the stances he’s advertising. Are they good for the county? (Never mind the world is he and what he stands for good for the country? The rest of the world is NOT part of the process)

Any party lending support to a candidate that condones another round of amnesty for illegal aliens or one that ignores the problems caused by the sanctuary cities that have begun to act as city states; have either not looked at the big picture or they have their own agenda. I’m thinking that perhaps these pirate party member are actually Democrats in disguise. Otherwise they would have recognized Ron Paul for his record. Rather than some wet behind the ears not even a completed term under his belt.

As for my personnal selection, it’s neither of the two mentioned.

119 Jan 04, 2008 at 16:54 by Ron Paul for Prez

Dr. Ron Paul says this on Internet regulations:
“I don’t understand all those problems that we face, although the point I make is I have a healthy disregard and fear of the bureaucrats doing it because once you do that, those big companies are going to regulate, they’re going to be the lobbyists and the politicians that regulate the law, and I think you’ll be in worse shape.”

Which is what we already have so he is correct!

I like Kucinich and Obama too, but think we need Ron Paul at this time.

Gov’nt in the US has become bloated and useless!

does anyone else see the irony of an article pretty much talking about freedom and democracy closing with “…comments will be censored”?? lmao

121 Jan 04, 2008 at 17:11 by Something

I’m not American but all I can say about your now ongoing elections is don’t vote for Clinton I think she’ll start off a bit better than Bush and then just get a whole lot worse…
If somehow Barack wins then i think it’ll be a stale term with no real change either way….
I also know you have some Religious nut-jobs who get a lot of faith votes and may do ok which is bad as they’ll force or try and force their beliefs into laws…
Also since I use the internet a lot I Know of Ron Paul and FFS vote for him! at least do some research on him/everyone else(real research) Especially since he gets basically ignored.

One last thing it’s people who say something like: “Oh he’ll never win so don’t waste your vote” that’ll help them not win if you all just stuck to your guns and don’t budge the votes go up they’d get recognized and possibly more people would join. …you never know…

Let’s see…

1) Obama admitted to cocaine use

2) Obama wants to step up the drug war, especially in Louisiana.

So.. Obama wants people like himself to be arrested and put in jail?
