US Pirate Party Endorses Barack Obama

Written by Ernesto on January 03, 2008

The US Pirate Party has no candidate for the upcoming elections, but who do the pirates vote for? Barack Obama, and the party strongly urges all its members to support his campaign, and vote for him in the primaries, and later this year in November.

US Pirate Party Endorses Barack ObamaThe Pirate Party just published a press release in which they show their support for Obama, and ask their members to support him as well. Obama is indeed the only candidate who’s even been willing to consider copyright change, the others are more interested in protecting the commercial rights of a few. Other than that, he has a healthy view on how to ensure people’s privacy and he values net neutrality.

Andrew Norton, a spokesperson of the US Pirate Party told TorrentFreak: “We believe in democracy, and progress. Since we are not putting forward a candidate of our own, we stand solidly behind Mr. Obama, as he is the only candidate that seems to realize that personal privacy is a right, not a privilege, and believes that copyright is, as the constitution defines, for progress, rather than profit.”

Mr. Obama clearly understands the important role that the Internet plays in delivering information and communications in general according to the US Pirate Party. A great example of this is the speech he gave at the at the Google campus where he said, “I will take a backseat to no one in my commitment to network neutrality.” He later told TechCrunch: “I will prevent network providers from discriminating in ways that limit the freedom of expression on the Internet.” So, no BitTorrent blocking if it was up to Obama, sorry Comcast.

Don’t want to trust on the Pirate Parties? You can do a votematch here if you’re tired of all the campaign commercials and want to base your decision on what the candidates actually stand for.

Note: all Ron Paul comments will be censored ;)

No politician is going to fix our copyright laws. Politicians become corrupted by money from the media companies. Any change that occurs has to occur outside the system.

Wow, I am really disappointed in the Pirate Party. Why would they support this liar who wants bigger government and has said he will not bring our troops home?

The only clear choice for an honest president who will clean up america is Ron Paul.

So much for the pirate party, as others said this really does show they don’t have a clue.

That votematch link you put at the end of the article does not include Ron Paul.

wrong choice

Obama is the right choice.

He was against the Iraq war from the beginning.

On the climate change issue, he just has the right attitude

The Pirate Party supports him, that shows how pirates are smart.

:p

I have to agree with you here. He has way out spent democrats too, and the repubs pissed away their majority, and made no real changes. Its all very sad :(

I dont think our economy can withstand a socialist for 4 or 8 years, but Ill take Obama over the hildebeast if it comes down to it.
At least he is honest about how far left he is. I guess thats all we can ask for in dirt bag politicians. Left or right. just be honest about what you believe.

Still, the pirate party are jackasses for backing a big government party. It shows a lack of care for their “party” by not having the slightest clue on the issues. Asshats.

A vote for a democrat or a republican, is a vote for Corporate America. You can’t win no matter the way you choose. The only difference between the two, is how much cheese they choose to hand out the nations poor. They have all been bought and sold to the highest bidder.

I vote to get rid of corporately funded lobbyist. That would be the first small step in the right direction.

Any thinking American should realise that the ONLY voting issue this year should be ending illegal wars that will eventually sink your country for the profit of very few (and possibly another country that shall remain nameless). Anything else is just a distraction.
Let’s see…

1) Obama admitted to cocaine use

2) Obama wants to step up the drug war, especially in Louisiana.

So.. Obama wants people like himself to be arrested and put in jail?

HYPOCRITE
Just because you did coke before, doesn’t mean you’re still (or ever was) addicted. That’s like saying once you light a fire it’ll last forever and ever without help until the end of time and then some.
Wow, I am really disappointed in the Pirate Party. Why would they support this liar who wants bigger government and has said he will not bring our troops home?
Ever hear of the Napoleanic wars? A big reason Napoleon couldn’t win was because he had to leave a buttload of troops in Spain to fight the insurgents so it didn’t become a boiling pot of rebel soldiers that could launch a real attack against him. That’s just like Iraq is the the US. If we just left now nothing positive would EVER come out of it, other than a bunch of countries with a grudge against us, another country ruled by a ridiculous theocracy, and a major threat to the people of America and just about every other Westernized country because extremeist Muslims hate any Westernized country. Anyone who promises to take our troops out now is lying for votes, or is a terrorist themself. I’m against this war and all, but it’s here and just leaving won’t solve the problem.

Anyway, bigger government doesn’t always mean more Big Brother effect. I could make a government that was huge without any stupid survailance on my own people. Plus, completely destroying all of the current offices and committees and what not would put so many people out of a job, and we have enough people trying to live as a McDonald’s frycook, last thing we need is more of that shit popping up all over the country. Next thing you know we’ll have McDonald’s brand filet mingion and BurgerKing brand fish filets in the supermarket…

As hard as you all try to voice your opinions it doesn’t matter its out of our hands.

145 Jan 05, 2008 at 10:17 by Burning

It’s never out of your hands. Just don’t put all your hopes with these big business candidates.

Read Noam chomsky or other thinkers who question society of today. You can always make a difference, and the first important step is to realize that we do NOT live in the free world, we have to do things differently and politicians and corporations are not going to help us.

Get your heads out of your asses, there is only one clear choice, Fred Thompson. Right now we need someone that doesn’t screw around and Mr. Thompson is the clear choice. But if your an idiot you go right ahead and make that call.
Muslim? where do you get your news from? That guy that lives in the alley across the street isnt a very reliable source. I heard he smoked crack cocaine. You havent been smokin too have you? That Thompson character is interesting but not a ‘clear choice. Stop doin

Just because you care about your surroundings doesnt make communist, it makes you human. Besides I dont think showing slides to be people is very ‘militant’.

148 Jan 05, 2008 at 11:42 by anonymous coward

By the way communism is an economical alternative to capitalism. It isnt some sort of religious following or cult. Why do so many fear something that is just an idea? What if you had an idea and everybody thought it was bad? You have to look at it from both angles. Unilateral thinking is what starts wars.

149 Jan 05, 2008 at 11:52 by anonymous coward

unilateral thinking on the terrorists part caused 9/11

Brainwashed brainwashed, we all have been brainwashed.

Fuck the narrowminded fundamentalistic Christians… I mean republicans. How about keeping religion and government separated. USA is falling more towards medieval times, unless it realizes this.

If I were an USA citizen, I’d vote for Clinton or Obama just for the sake of not having a white male as president for the first time. All the rest are lies anyway. But it won’t happen. USA dug its own grave.
