I remember hearing about a company called, I think, N-VPN. They keep no logs what so ever. iPredator- an old favourite of mine, only keeps bare minimum logs for connection debugging etc (then are deleted after 2 weeks I think).

Point being- shop around and you’ll find a legit VPN without any logs and which allows you to torrent.

IPv4 is going to die sometime in the next 4 years, I’d say. We are already running out of IP addresses as it stands today, though part of that is because they are not seizing back unused blocks that were given to various teleco’s.

Yeah, right…. misses that those people could have a wireless internet that someone is using without their permission, someone could have hacked into their wired connection… need I keep on going?

IP addresses and even these logs are not enough to point specifically at a specific person.

The current financial state of Europe and the US doesn’t leave a whole bunch of room to invest in moving to IPv6. Most people take it for granted that it just works so it won’t be forced through until some major sections of the internet simply don’t work on IPv4.

During NAT outbound ports are generated by the router. You have no control over this port.

That’s why you get a VPN that exits in a country like Switzerland which has ruled private, non-commercial downloading legal.

Even if they DID decide to try upping the ante, they’d still be going after the low-hanging fruit first to save money.

Right. Because IP addresses worked so well for you when you sued Tanya Andersen, despite finding the real culprit using the identified username, being a whole fucking ocean away, and when he denied all wrongdoing you took his word for it.

IP address or not, pirates won’t be identified for one huge obstacle in the way: stupidity. Which led to another hurdle: broken trust and faith in the general public.
