I totally agree. However...

I'm originally from the UK but now live in Spain. Thanks to IP filtering, I cannot now watch any programs (like Dr Who) that are shown on the BBC iPlayer in the UK...FOR FREE...simply because they use the IP filtering to block me from using the relevant part of the BBC website. (PS - the BBC is funded by a tv licence that I pay for because I still have a flat in London, so I'm paying my dues).

So I cannot access a FREE service from a PUBLICLY FUNDED organisation (which I have already PAID FOR as a member of the public) that allows each episode to be watched FREE OF CHARGE around 10 minutes after the original airtime simply because I'm in a location that "legally" allows them to extort money from?

I have bought every box set of Dr Who because I want to keep them. I will still continue to buy the box sets, except now - because I am FORCED to download the episodes by torrent - I won't be buying them directly from the BBC, but second hand, and only when the price is right as I already have the torrent versions.

It also gets me wondering why I bother to continue paying the TV licence any more.

A simple maths question for the BBC: in this one example alone, just how much money does your stupidity lose you and save me?

I can't get over all the sad ordinary people who bought into the 'piracy is bad' line and actually started having a go at other forum users, making out like they're thieving scum. Unless I am unique, I have found my piracy has generated many sales. I downloaded a little sci-fi series called Firefly, to see what the fuss was about, and I fell in love with it... so I bought the box set, AND the spin-off film Serenity. I downloaded a few episodes of Babylon 5, got hooked... bought the entire 5 season 'complete universe' set a few months later. They are just a small example of my own purchases that were generated by my initial piracy. If someone *really* likes something, they will not settle for a 700MB file... or even a 720p file, when they can get the DVD or Blu-ray. Sure, there are lots of films I've downloaded that I never bought... but these are films I'd never have dreamed of walking into the shop to buy anyway, or that I'd pay into a cinema for, so no sale has been lost. Piracy for me is a try before you buy deal. And I am sure I'm not unique in this. Anyone who is staunchly anti-piracy is a narrow-minded, short sighted dinosaur who cannot see the bigger picture. End of.

So how should I get the movies I want, I live in a country where they speak not my native language, my daughter has to learn my native language too and I want to buy her cartoons and disneys in my own native language, that is not possible in this country. So ok lets see if I can order it in my home country, no my foreign bank card is not accepted and my income is too low for a credit card, so ask them to pay in advance by bank, no is not possible so after 1 day searching for my movie for my daughter i fired up Vuze and BAM 15 minutes with my mobile modem and she could watch it.... guess that is immoral, spending a day searching for a movie I could also have played with my son :)

""Get DVD's , the way movies where meant to be seen""

Sorry but , i wont buy dvd's...
Nothing to do with region locks , trailers , availability etc...
They can be copied at no cost.... so are worthless.

I will buy an experience at the cinema tho.

The propaganda the industry push is just getting more ridiculous.
Defaming filesharing with misinformation , all in an attempt to con people into buying worthless products.
Well apart from the physical disk , cover and case... It's worthless. But we don't need dvd disks or covers etc....

I like that second anti-piracy advert. They assume those that buy films legitimately do so on a big TV with popcorn, and with about 10 friends all watching. And they also assume pirates download films do so in a grey, darkly lit room and it takes hours and hours to download, then they watch it on their own in sadness.

LOL
